Have you ever felt like this after a breakup?

One week ago, I broke with a girl after one year of relationship. But the reason why it happened was not because of some love triangle or messed up moment but it was because this girl was emotionally unstable with herself and I ultimately got emotionally and physiologically tired.

At first she was fine and didn't show any sign of depression or anything, but then, over the course of the months, she started to depend too much on me to feel better. Like, she tried to find anything so I could compliment her more than needed. Somehow she suddenly got mad because I didn't do anything else with a drawing that she gave me than having it framed in my desktop, I even made the effort to find a beautiful frame for it! She got really angry after I told her that I have Dyscalculia and I tend to forget any kind of number related thing, like if I invented that as an excuse and to be fair, the condition is barely known but you can't just get angry because you don't know about something!

Before the breakup, she was smiling and doing things that she barely did because of her previous mood and opinion about herself, but I was lacking energy, the same energy that people would use to recognize me... She absorbed all of my happiness, all of my shine! So after talking with my parents (because they noticed this lack of energy too) and thinking about myself, I decided to end the relationship. She had to understand that she can't depend on a person to be happy and I can't drain myself to make another person happy. Sadly, she would not understand because of her behavior, so the only solution was to end it. After the day I told her everything, I put everything that reminded me of her in a box and I just greet her without any grudge or anything like that.

Now I feel more like myself again, with energy that everyone likes to see and that I enjoy to have. Hell, I even started to draw and practice voices again (Something that she was so ashamed of) like old times! I even don't feel scared of not answering the phone messages because that person gets desperate and feels like I'm not paying attention.

Did you ever got into something like this? :o

Yeah definitely, and it's a real opener that it was an unhealthy relationship. Feeling like you can't be yourself is the worst, and it's best to end those relationships, quit those jobs, etc

You see that's why I don't get into relationships. Can't get into an unhealthy relationship if you don't have any chance at a relationship due to your ever present fear of rejection. That got too real for a moment, let me liven back up a bit. Congrats on getting out of something that was hurting you, and it's commendable that you're able to look beyond such a relationship with no grudge. I know if I was in your situation I'd probably be sick of the girl and have a bit of contempt left over.

Wasn't she a bit narcissistic? It definitely feels like she was, reading you post, in which case the best thing you've done is to break up with her. Reading about narcissistic relationships, people often say it's unhealthy. Personally I've never been in such a relationship, so I can't tell for sure, but I think it's the best for both of you. Maybe not for her, but definitely for you.

I'm too friendly to see myself holding a grudge... Except if that person made me reeeeeeally angry, like my two neighboors.

Let's hope the story ends here and instead of turning into one of those crazy ex narratives.

Let's hope not! Those stories are stressful and could be even more stressful living in one.

Exactly! Maybe she will never understand and somehow a bit of... Something will blind her, but I did this to be better with myself, to recover my bright and cheerful myself back!

From the sounds of it (which is admittedly one sided) it's probably better for her too. Not healthy for all of your happiness to derive from just one source. Especially one that's growing less and less willing to fulfill that role.

No, but the doctors are emphatic that I suffer from something called 'Stockholm Syndrome', but then again what the hell do they know? Am I right fellas?
