Favorite FE support?

Since there's 15 FE games, soon to be 16, and many characters within, what were some of your favorite character interactions you've seen? I personally really liked Silque and Faye's A support because in the ones before, it shows how Silque wished to become Faye's friend, but Faye beame annoyed and left, but in this support it shows how Faye realizes her mistakes in being rude and wishes to get to know Silque better, making Silque happy~

Largos and Devdan in PoR is super fucking cool because its very much up to the individuals interpretation but theres obviously a general consensus of what happened but nonetheless it was really quite unique.

Largo: Hey Devdan, can we talk?
Devdan: Devdan always has time for you ;)

Ike and Elincia is definitely one, I do ship them for a reason. The original Japanese version is actually boring imo, but localization did so much better and gave them more emotion and chemistry between each other.

Any Frederick support is gold in some way to me. lol He's so amazing and hilarious. XD

Jill and Lethe is amazing.

Any Kieran support is hilarious, I love that guy too. lol

There are many, but I can bring up a few of my personal favorites

Knoll and Natasha/Duessel - Some nice worldbuilding and overall touching diaogue.

Rolf and Tauroneo - Kind of goes against all expectations and delivers a series of emotional revelations about Tauroneo.

Noire and Brady - Two childhood friends bond over their shared physical frailty.

I also like Rolf and Tauroneo's supports. It shines some light into the latter and shows that he's more than just a grisly veteran.

Renault's supports (FE7) are cool, too. It's a shame he's just a bonus character who isn't even good as a Bishop (for IC reasons tied to his backstory).

Definitely Rolf and Tauroneo. Rolf is a good boy as always but the star is definitely the old general who gives a nice bit of detail about how much being a star general has cost him. It also ends with a pretty optimistic moment where Tauroneo wants to make things right again with his family. Its a shame he and Rolf don't bring it up again in RD.

I found L'arachel's support with Joshua and Ephraim (moreso with Joshua) and Kris and Feena to be funny. I also liked Nephenee and Callil, as well as Fae with Igrene/Sophia/Elphin.

I really like the supports in fe6 in which they talk about game mechanics. You've got Lance & Lott who talk about the weapon triangle, play a strategy game together and talk about how they got fewer numbers. Yoder & Dayan talking about religion and the affinities. I also like the support between Treck & Noah. It shows us how two people that live under the same circumstances go through their life and deal with problems.

The support between Tana & Innes is also one of my favourites. The fact that they constantly disagree with each other makes you think that they never get along. But in the end we are shown that they in fact do get along (sometimes) and when you realize how much they value each other it is really touching.

The support between Inigo and his parents is also really good. It showed me that he wasn't just a flirt but that he also had a sense of duty, hobbies and insecurities (shame that his other supports are bad).

While I'm not a huge fan of supports and think that they could be improved a lot with how they're implemented, there are still a lot more that I like.

I've assembled a list of formalized general criteria by which I judge a Support. Such is me being serious and intellectual me.:

Spoiler

If I had to define what a good Support is, I would say it must be natural, be of good tone, developmental, and mutual.

To define these individually:

Natural- The Support must flow like a natural conversation with natural interactions, it mustn’t be forced. See LutexKnoll for a Support that is in no way natural, or FemaleRobinxChrom. BoydxBrom has a natural flow, no character acts out of character, no action unusual.

Tone- The Support must have a defined and well-executed overall spirit to the interactions. There can be more than one tone in play, and this can be a boon to the conversation if well-executed. There is nothing wrong with serious or comical or anything else, whatever it is, it must be done well. BoydxBrom is able to weave tones of seriousness and the comical into the Support without any issues. NepheneexDevdan tries to be funny in its tone, but ends up just being unfunny creepy.

Developmental- The Support must contain development in it for one or both of its participants. This can be revealing backstory, this can be having a character change in their ways, or it can just be really fun interactions which explore a facet already known about a character. The important thing is that the player leaves the conversation having learned something of significance. BoydxBrom shows us how Boyd envies farmers from a moral ground and loves his family despite the discrimination brought by being a mercenary. Brom physically develops from his training, and consoles Boyd in his thoughts with some of his own praise for mercenaries. By the end of VaidaxDorcas, nothing is learned of either participant.

Mutual- The Support must grant both participants significant time, a significant role, and ideally significant development. A Support should not be a monologue, it should reflect the fact it has two people in it, a Support should be a dialogue. What is not mutual is IkexSoren (at least for the B rank), and FioraxGeitz. Both of these supports have one character explaining their backstory in detail, with the other being there just giving short comments and replies between long explanations from the first. For IkexSoren, Ike is the only person Soren could open up to, and Ike already has the plot of PoR and RD to develop, so in way it is fine here. FioraxGeitz has no such excuses for why Fiora is relegated to so little a role, and it makes her seeming confession of love at the end seem so odd- the two have barely interacted enough for a romance to form.

Not having mutuality does not make a support inherently terrible, it can still be good, the IkexSoren compensates for the lack of mutuality in how much it provides of Soren’s development. Likewise, one can have mutuality, but be lacking for something else. ZiharkxMuarim is very mutual, each gives each other something and learns something about the other in the process. But the gift-giving, to me at least, seems a bit forced, and therefore unnatural; this is still a good Support though.

As for a single favorite support, I'm too indecisive to pick just one.

There are many reasons as to why I love Severa so much and her supports with her parents and robin(both male and female) make up the bulk of those reasons. These supports really do shed light on who she is as a person. What struggles and hardships she’s faced and how she goes about dealing with them. It grounds her normally abrasive attitude and makes me empathize with her and want to see her be happy. Gosh darn it she just needs a hug and by mila I want to give her that hug.

As far as funny supports go, pretty much all of L'Arachel's are, to quote Eirika, "very far from common".

I also like Amelia/Duessel a lot, just for how wholesome it is. In the same vein, Forde has some great convos, too, and his Eirika support is among my favourite romantic ones in the series.

Honestly, I'd have to say Stahl and Panne's S-Support. Even though the rest of their support chain is fairly simple stuff that ends on a hilarious note, and I'll admit does more for Stahl than Panne, it is still personally my favorite support just for how much it caught me off guard and for single-handedly making Stahl my favorite Fire Emblem character.

I am still amazed that Stahl used something as simple as food as an opportunity to get to know Panne better as a person, as well as to get her to socialist a bit more, even if it was just a little. And he proves that he does know her, as the first thing he acknowledges while proposing is that there will be diplomatic responsibilities from their marriage, which is something that few of Panne's other potential spouse's mention. Yet first and foremost, he's marrying her because he loves her.

It may not sound like much when written out, but again, I was surprised at how a support chain otherwise about food was turned into a very competent and well rounded marriage proposal. This was one of the first S-Supports I unlocked, and it definitely left an impression, to say the least.

Many of my favorite supports have already been named, but I'm sad to see a lack of my favorite support above all; Lute x Artur

It's the sweetest thing ever, and their A support puts all S supports in Awakening/Fates to shame imo. =3

I'm kind of surprised to see someone mention Stahl's supports with characters not named Cordelia here but I must admit I forgot about that support chain.

As an aside, I am personally biased towards Canas/Nino's support chain. I really like how Canas also has to learn from Nino when she calls out how Hugh has been treated with dark magic and Canas becomes a metaphorical uncle to Nino within this new army before we even get to the confirmation that he's her uncle(-in-law).

Great. Now I want to see Taguel Transportation Services be a thing. I'll add that to the list, alongside taguel warrens, taguel risen, taguels on trampolines, and taguels appearing in another Fire Emblem game.

Also, I spelled the word correctly, but used the wrong word. Again. *Internal Screaming*

I'm kind of surprised as well. I know that people have often criticized Awakening for having their characters "gimmicks" be in your face, yet I always found that Stahls "Nice Guy" aspect to be rather low-key in its implementation, and they get a strong amount of mileage out of it. There are legit only about one or two conversations of his that I don't like.

There are so many supports in FE. Some great, some really bad. But I do have a few favourites:

  1.  Ike and Elincia. This one is very heartfelt and the two have great chemistry (at least in the localisation), but that's not all there is. The conversations reflect how far both of them have come and how much each of them has grown; largely thanks to each other. From the first one being Elincia making a simple mistake with strapping her scabbard and Ike fixing it while noting how it used to give him trouble; reflecting how far Ike has come from a newbie mercenary to leading an army and how far Elincia has come from being a hidden and sheltered princess to choosing to fight alongside the rest of the group, the second one involving them talking how far they've come; with Ike even fondly referring to the time Elincia said, "Give them... a sound thrashing (it makes sense in context)", and the third one ending with Ike referring to Elincia by name; something he only did once, by accident, in a fit of rage, and Elincia responding by referring to him as "Ike" rather than "lord Ike" as she normally calls him in an attempt to be formal.
  2. Ike and Soren. This one is a very close second. Ike and Soren's friendship is a great dynamic, and this support sums up why. It also perfectly conveys why, by the third support conversation, Ike is the only person to which Soren actually reveals that he's branded; Nasir deduced it and used it to blackmail Soren into keeping his mouth shut, and Stefan deduced it before revealing that they have being branded in common. By contrast, Ike hears about it from Soren, and just doesn't care; because he's not one to care about stuff like that. Plus, it's also just great to see a hero have a good close friend. If anyone's wondering why I don't ship Ike and Soren; this support is the reason why. In my opinion, the relationship turning romantic would take away from this amazing dynamic that they already have in the story.
  3.  Rolf and Tauraneo. This one was both extremely heartbreaking and extremely heartwarming while giving great insight into both characters. Also, I love how, usually, it's the old man telling the kid, "It's too late for me, but you still have time" but, in this case, it's the kid saying it to the old man.
  4.  Muarim and Zihark. This one is fantastic in that both help each other with their respective tragic pasts and quickly become friends, with both receiving a gift from the other that has immense significance to the one that gave the gift: Zihark receiving the sword-cleaning tools from Muarim, who used to maintain his owner's swords, and Muarim receiving that herb from Zihark, whose laguz girlfriend loved the smell, but Muarim himself can't smell it. This one is just fantastic.
  5.  Robin and Cordelia. Yeah; you probably didn't expect an Awakening support conversation to appear on a list that, aside from this, is just Path of Radiance supports. But this one has good reason to be on the list. This one sees Robin help Cordelia overcome her grief and survivor's guilt over the loss of her fellow Pegasus Knights, and, in doing so, it shows an aspect of Cordelia's character that isn't seen in any other support conversation with her. It's quite good.
  6.  Muarim and Largo. This one I just found hilarious. But even then, this one's great as it shows two people: a Beorc and a Laguz at that, just... bonding, over something as basic as physical strength, and having a great moment of levity together in a time of war. Plus them not knowing which weighed more: Mist or a ham, and having to declare the weightlifting contest a tie was absolutely hilarious. If I were ever in charge of a TV adaption of Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance, I would definitely include this, as well as the actual moment of the weightlifting competition; with Ike, Elincia, Titania and Soren having a serious conversation only to hear a commotion outside the tent and see everyone gathering around to witness the competition. Even Soren would crack a grin, and Titania would mercilessly tease him about it.
