Improving the Genealogy Translation Patch

I'm ok with using the old version. Edda's become something I look forward to just for the sheer incongruity. That said, if you could release a patch with just the updated script, while keeping names all the same, that'd be most awesome of all.

I play FE4 in both English and Mandarin, and FE5 in Mandarin exclusively, so...yeah.

Honestly, when you get used to Serlis, it's actually not half bad.

I actually like Serlis more. It's much more manly than Celice. The only problem is everybody and everything refers to Sigurd's son as Celice so it would just be annoying to have him called Celice everywhere else.

By the way, exactly what still needs to be done now?

Off the top of my head

- the ending conversation

- the ending narration

- opening demos (including non-fight scenes with dialogue)

- welcome-backs

- most of any graphical text

Since Celice is a member of this forum, I'd prefer Celice to be the ingame name.

That is quite possibly the worst name argument I've ever seen.

Twilkitri, I know I didn't agree with some names at first, but now that I thought a bit more about it I came to the conclusion I was overreacting and I thought I'd just say a simple thank you for your effort, because that has hardly been said in this topic yet :)

And Serlis does indeed sound more manly to me. I will get used to it, I'm sure!

I HAVE AN IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT.

There is a game-breaking bug in chapter 4.

At the beginning of the enemy phase right after you conquer Silesia, the dialogue scene doesn't appear, and instead glitchy text appears on the map. The game subsequently freezes.

I'd post a screenshot, but I'm not in a very good position to do so just now. I'll upload it tomorrow to show you what it looks like.

Did you play through from before the start of chapter 4 or from midway? I haven't adjusted the relevant script file in any substantive way, so I'm not sure how it might suddenly stop working unless something has gone wrong with the 2A fix in general, in which case I would have expected all the previous 2A scripts in chapter 4 to have broken as well.

I'm not quite sure. I think I started from a save file on the first turn. Do you think that would cause any problems?

EDIT: The bug doesn't happen on the Japanese ROM. Also, this is my first time playing using a headered rom. Would that make a difference?

EDIT EDIT: Due to a prior savestate, I have a save at the very beginning of the chapter--not the first turn! I'll restart the chapter from that save and see if the bug happens again. If it does, I'll post a picture.

I think Serlis is a good change because otherwise it's too similar to Celica and she came first so it's only fair we change Celice.

BTW I'm gunna be pissed if I get to chpt 4 and this freezes on me.

Guys we also forgot about Magefighter

Noting that I've got myself into a position to reproduce the Chapter 4 problem and it is happening (at least the Pamela/Lamia Alive version, haven't checked the others yet).

If you're talking about the crashing part I guess I could fill it up with placeholder text.

I seem to have fixed the chapter 4 problem - there was an error in the 2A block pointer rewriting which was unlucky enough to get uncovered due to where SIF decided to put everything. Ideally will get around to putting up an updated version tomorrow.

- Renamed Aoife to Oifaye

- Renamed Bowfighter to Archer

- Renamed Swordfighter to Myrmidon

- Renamed Axefighter to Fighter

- Renamed Thieffighter to Rogue

- Renamed Magefighter to Mage Hero

- Renamed Ranger to Hero

- Renamed Forest Knight to Ranger

- Renamed Astra Sword to Astrasword because Astra Sword sounds off

- Renamed Luna Sword to Lunasword to match Astrasword

- Renamed Sol Sword to Solsword to match Astrasword

- Fixed 2A address rewriting to not convert C-F address to 8-B addresses

- Added placeholder text for welcome back dialogue as I found the existing behaviour could somehow cause gameplay problems

- Fixed the fullscreen save screen save option

- Added welcome back dialogue area to the area available for overwriting

- Swapped 'No leader' and 'No army' labels as they were the wrong way around and somehow no-one had noticed

In case anyone cares about/is concerned about that sort of thing for some reason, the welcome back placeholders are made of cardboard not hilarity.
