Due to Growth points being rounded to the nearest whole number, it is possible to trick the game into gaining more Growth points than normal, and hence increase stat gain, by choosing specific Exp increments for characters to gain. This also works with Exp gained in combat, but it’s much easier done with Bonus Exp, since you can easily choose and repeat the Exp increments.
|Growth rate||Effective Growth rate with Bonus Exp increment of|
Ike has a Strength growth rate of 50%. Normally, you might give him 100 Bonus Exp to level him up. In which case:
Strength Growth points = Experience gained x Unit’s growth rate = 100 x 0.5 = 50
(Assuming Ike has no weapon or item equipped.)
100 Growth points are needed to gain a stat, so Ike would need another Level Up to gain an extra point in Strength. The main point is that the ratio of Bonus Exp to Growth points is 2 : 1, which is consistent with a growth rate of 50%. So far so normal.
However, what happens if you give Ike just 1 point of Bonus Exp?
Strength Growth points = 1 x 0.5 = 0.5 = 1 rounded to the nearest integer
In this scenario, the ratio of Bonus Exp to Growth points is 1 : 1. If you gave Ike 1 Bonus Exp a hundred times, he would gain 100 Growth points and increase his Strength by 1. So his Strength growth rate is effectively raised from 50% to 100%.
You can also consider making characters equip certain weapons and/or items to benefit more from this trick. For instance, you can raise Ike’s Defence growth rate from 40% to 50% by equipping him with a Silver Sword and a Knight Band.
