Three Houses: Cindered Shadows Recap & Some New Details via Official Website

Ahead of the impending release of Three Houses’s Wave 4 DLC, Nintendo has updated the Japanese Three Houses website with details about Cindered Shadows side story included in the DLC.

Note that most of the information is stuff we already know via Twitter, etc. But for the sake of completion, we’ll go through everything.

The Wave 4 DLC will be available from 13th February 2020 (Japan time). However, no specific time frame was given–and, to avoid disappointment, we’re not going to guess!

Abyss – The Dark Side of Garreg-Mach

The story takes place in Abyss, an underground area beneath Garreg-Mach. The protagonist and a few students were chasing a suspicious figure into the monastery’s basements. They arrive at the dark side of Garreg-Mach, where the surface laws don’t reach, and meet four young people who claim to be from Garreg-Mach’s “fourth house”.

Ashen Wolves

The students from the “Ashen Wolves” secretly established this fourth house within Abyss.
Each of them resides in Abyss for various reasons and they’re fighting against mysterious invaders to protect those living in Abyss.

Yuri Leclerc (VA: Junya Enoki)

The Ashen Wolves’ unofficial leader.
He was a student at the Officer’s Academy, but expelled for some reason and relocated to Abyss. Beneath his crass speech, he is devoted to protecting the denizens of Abyss, although it can be difficult to tell.

Three Houses: Cindered Shadows 12-Page Feature in This Week’s Famitsu & More DLC Class Tidbts

The next issue of Weekly Famitsu, which releases on 13th February, will have a 12-page feature on the Cindered Shadows side story from Three Houses’s Wave 4 DLC.

To celebrate the occasion, Famitsu has brought over Jun Suemi–who has designed artwork for various classic games, most notably Falcom’s Brandish series–to create a new piece of artwork for the issue’s cover.

Included in the feature will be details on the new characters (presumably the Ashen Wolves and Aelfric), how Cindered Shadows interacts with the main story, plus interviews with the two directors–Toshiyuki Kusaikihara and Genki Yokota.

The preview image shows off the profiles for the four Ashen Wolves students. Of note, it has details of their personal abilities (which are too blurry to read), crests (all “Mystery Crest”) and classes.

As expected, Yuri, Constance, Balthus and Hapi have access to Trickster, Dark Flier, War Monk and Valkyrie respectively. They also have access to Commoner (Yuri and Hapi), Noble (Constance and Balthus) and Thief (Yuri).

For those who don’t follow us on social media, the Japanese Twitter account shared more details about two of the DLC classes.

Three Houses: Wave 4 DLC Classes Officially Revealed!

With one week to go until Wave 4 of the Three Houses DLC is released, Nintendo and Intelligent Systems have been sharing a lot of tidbits via social media.

The latest morsel is related to the four brand new DLC classes. We already knew about them via data-mining, but now it’s official! The new classes are: Trickster, War Monk/Cleric, Dark Flier and Valkyrie. Awakening fans should recognise all four.

Featured in the screenshots are the Trickster and War Cleric classes. Looking at Ferdinand and Annette’s class lists, it seems our earlier suspicions have been confirmed: both Dark Flier and Valkyrie are female-only classes.

In Cindered Shadows, the four members of the Ashen Wolves will have access to these classes. Yuri will have Trickster, while we’re guessing Balthus will have War Monk, Constance Dark Flier and Hapi Valkyrie.

Trickster has a new Combat Art called “Trick”, which lets the user swap places with an ally within 5 spaces. With this, you can literally trick your way around the battlefield!

These classes can be unlocked in your main story save files after clearing Chapter 1 of Cindered Shadows. They are listed under a new category called “Special” classes. Characters must be Level 20+ and use an Underground Seal to change into these classes.

When you think of Trickster, there’s probably one character that jumps to mind. After clearing Chapter 1 of Cindered Shadows, you’ll be able to change Anna into her Trickster attire! Like other outfit changes, this can be done via “Unit Appearance” in your private quarters.

Additionally, Anna’s portrait during conversations etc. will change to match her new outfit! Classy.

Three Houses: Alphard* Profile & Cindered Shadows Class/Ability Tidbits

Next week, the final wave of DLC (as far as we know) will be released for Three Houses. Recently, the official Japanese Twitter account has been sharing details for the Cindered Shadows side story from the DLC.

In case you missed it, here’s what they posted earlier: 1st set of profiles / 2nd set of profiles (includes details about the save file interactions).

Now, onto the new stuff!

Alphard

Not to be mistaken with a well known YouTuber, Alphard appears to be an important NPC within Abyss. It seems he’s the 38 year old male found via data-mining.

* Although we’ve currently given him the name “Alphard”, based on his Japanese name, there’s a high chance that his name in the English version is “Aelfric”.

If you enable English subtitles (not the auto-generated ones) in the American trailer for Cindered Shadows, around the halfway mark, some of the lines come from a person called “Aelfric”. These lines seem like something Alphard would say.

Thanks to u/Crazydjs on Reddit for pointing this out!

In addition, we have a few more general gameplay tidbts.

Unlike the main story, where you can raise your skill levels and pass examinations to change class, in Cindered Shadows, each character has preset classes that you can choose from. New classes will also appear, so please stay tuned!

Also, skill levels are fixed, so each character will have preset skills and combat arts. Maps in Cindered Shadows have more gimmicks and the difficulty is a bit higher than the main story. You’ll need to plan around each character’s role, as well as the situation in front!
