Nintendo Direct Announces Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore for Switch, Jan 2020

Yep, you heard it here folks, if you didn’t hear about it on the Nintendo Direct that just ran, that is.

The Switch will get its upgraded version of the previously Wii U exclusive, Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE, as Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE Encore.

This re-release is an upgraded that comes with a handful of upgrades, but very few new features were described. What was shown, though, included the announcement of a new song, as well as Tiki being no longer restricted to being non-playable.

It’s slated for release on January 17, 2020, but pre-orders are available later today.

Japan: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light Coming to Nintendo Switch Online

Nintendo has recently announced the upcoming NES/Famicom games to be available for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers. While the West get Kid Icarus and Star Tropics. Japan gets Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light, and the Konami arcade game, Yie Ar Kung-Fu.

Nintendo Switch owners with Japanese accounts should be able to access the game if they wish to try it out. Of course, a subscription to Nintendo’s Online Service is required (although, if it’s your first time, you can also apply for a 7-day trial). Switch games are not region locked.

Shadow Dragon and the Blade of Light is the very first Fire Emblem game starring Marth, as he attempts to reclaim kingdom, honor, his heirloom–the Falchion–and rescue his sister.

It laid the foundation of many common themes, archetypes and traditions still present in the series to this very day. While rough and kind of clunky by today’s standards it still holds a significant place in the franchise’s history.

This will be the fourth time the game has been re-released, Japan received the game on October 20th 2009 for the Wii Virtual Console, August 1st 2012 on the 3DS and finally the Wii U in June 4th 2014.

It will be available on the Famicom service from March 13th 2019.

Three Houses: February 2019 Direct Analysis

The wait for new Fire Emblem: Three Houses information has been painful for fans, but we can breathe a sigh of relief for now. During the February 2019 Nintendo Direct, we got our first look at the brand new Switch title since its E3 2018 debut.

The new trailer seems to open where the last one left off, with the mysterious young green-haired girl–presumably a dragon, because of her pointy ears–waking up from her slumber. Well, we’ve had dragons sleeping for centuries with Tiki, but 200+ days is quite a long time for us humans to wait!

As we suspected, this girl isn’t Tiki herself, but a brand new character that we later learn is called Sothis. She seems a bit surprised to see you here–and we’ll learn why later.

Right afterwards, we’re shown the game’s logo, which has been slightly updated. In particular, the “Three Houses” text now has a fancier, cursive font. The Japanese logo has been updated too, with the “moon” kanji (getsu) resembling a crescent moon.

It’s not just the logo that’s different, the world map of Fodlan has a few changes too. Most notably, the name of the three key nations–and the name of the continent itself–have been updated with their English translations.
