Chapter 17A: Lenster’s Gate

On the World Map

Breaking past Fort Norden, the Liberation Army stood before the eastern gate of Lenster at last.

However, a legion even larger than the forces at Fort Norden awaited them.

Opening Cutscene

Gustav:
“Nicaraf, haven’t you dealt with the rebels yet!”

Nicaraf:
“No… We lost our chance to victory due to Kempuf’s selfish actions. Forgive me!”

Gustav:
“Damn that Kempuf… So is this how he repays me?
We should have done as you suggested and sent him back to the Empire.”

Nicaraf:
“No, sir, it is all my responsibility. However, we have nothing to worry about now. We have my armored infantry and Bishop Moore’s magicians defending the castle gate. Rinehart’s Gelpritter will be attacking the enemy from the rear. We have also called for Ciledia’s Pegasus Knights for extra backup. With all these forces, we will able to defend against anything.”

Gustav:
“I see… Well, I know I can trust your judgment. Oh, and Bishop Cyas will be stopping by. He is on a journey, but he said he would aid us for a short while.”

Nicaraf:
“The genius tactician Cyas!?”

Gustav:
“He should be arriving in a few hours.”

Nicaraf:
“Yes. We will concentrate on defense, and commence our attack once Bishop Cyas arrives. Lord Gustav, please stay in the castle and wait for our victory.”

Gustav:
“I trust I am leaving this in good hands, Nicaraf!”

(Scene switches to Leaf)

August:
“This could be difficult, prince. The enemy’s formation is near flawless.”

Leaf:
“What do you mean?”

August:
“The problem is the Ciledian mercenaries waiting in the northwest. If we approach the castle, we will be assaulted from behind.”

Leaf:
“Can we send a division of our troops to deal with them?”

August:
“We have already left half of our forces in the rear to defend against Rinehart’s forces. We can’t divide our troops any further.”

Leaf:
“What should we do, then?”

August:
“It depends on how willing the Ciledian mercenaries are to fight…”

(Scene switches to Misha)

Nicaraf:
“So do you understand our plan, General Misha?”

Misha:
“Yes…”

Nicaraf:
“Good. And if you do not mind me asking…”

Misha:
“Yes?”

Nicaraf:
“I heard your mother was killed by the rebel Sigurd in the civil war. Is it true?”

Misha:
“……”

Nicaraf:
“Is that why you became a mercenary for the Empire?”

Misha:
“My mother has nothing to do with it. We are working to feed our starving children back home. We need money for milk and bread…that’s all.”

Nicaraf:
“I see… Forgive my intrusiveness. You can forget what I said.”

Misha:
“……”

10th Turn

(If Nicaraf is alive)

Cyas:
“Good day, General Nicaraf.”

Nicaraf:
“Ah, Bishop Cyas! We have been waiting for you.”

Cyas:
“How is the situation looking?”

Nicaraf:
“The enemy is fighting better than we expected, and I regret to say we are having trouble. But now with the genius Bishop Cyas at our side, we have nothing to fear!”

Cyas:
“Has Lord Rinehart’s Gelpritter arrived yet?”

Nicaraf:
“He should break through the enemy’s rear lines and join us shortly.”

Cyas:
“Good. Then let us commence our offense. Tell the Ciledian mercenaries to prepare to attack.”

Nicaraf:
“Of course, Bishop Cyas!”

(If Nicaraf is dead)

Cyas:
“…How is the situation looking?”

Soldier:
“B-Bishop Cyas? …The enemy is fighting better than we expected, and we are having trouble… General Nicaraf has fallen as well…”

Cyas:
“I see…”

Soldier:
“But we have been blessed with the genius Bishop Cyas’
presence. We have nothing to fear now!”

Cyas:
“Has Lord Rinehart’s Gelpritter arrived yet?”

Soldier:
“He should break through the enemy’s rear lines and join us shortly.”

Cyas:
“Good. Then let us commence our offense. Tell the Ciledian mercenaries to prepare to attack.”

Soldier:
“Of course, Bishop Cyas!”

(Scene switches to Leaf)

Leaf:
“What…what’s going on!? The enemy’s morale seems to have suddenly risen…”

Dorias:
“Our worst fears have come true, Lord Leaf. We have no time to waste. We must retreat!”

Leaf:
“What? What do you mean!?”

Dorias:
“The young archbishop and genius tactician of Velthomer… Bishop Cyas is aiding the enemy. As long as he is against us, we have no hope of victory.”

Leaf:
“There was such an individual in the Empire…?”

August:
“He is the son of General Aida, the Emperor’s most trusted advisor. After her mysterious death, he had entered a Bragi monastery…”

Leaf:
“…But if we retreat now, we’ll lose so many of our troops… What should I do…?”

(Scene switches to a soldier)

Soldier:
“This is our chance! Wipe out the rebels! Lower the bridge!”

12th Turn

Mueler:
“Damn, this took longer than I had expected. Tell the troops to charge!”

Soldier:
“General Mueler, what happened to Lord Rinehart?”

Mueler:
“He went to Conort with Queen Ishtar. She was acting strange…he was probably worried about her.”

Soldier:
“Running to the queen in the face of war?
Sigh…”

Mueler:
“Watch your tongue, soldier!”

Soldier:
“Y-Yes! I’m sorry!”

Mueler:
“But… Not having him here is indeed a problem…”

15th Turn

Ishtar:
“Bishop Cyas!”

Cyas:
“Queen Ishtar? And Lord Rinehart… What is the matter? You look worried.”

Ishtar:
“Yurius is not well! He is suffering from a very high fever…”

Cyas:
“He was never strong, but he seems to be getting worse lately… Have you told the Lopto bishops?”

Ishtar:
“I won’t let them go near him!”

Cyas:
“Not even Lord Manfroy!? Why not?”

Ishtar:
“You know that reason more than anyone else, Lord Cyas… Please understand.”

Cyas:
“…Very well. I will try to be of some help. Where is Lord Yurius?”

Ishtar:
“In my room in Conort…”

Cyas:
“I see… Well then, let’s go, Queen Ishtar.”

(Scene switches to a soldier)

Soldier:
“What? Bishop Cyas went to Conort!? Damn…we have to secure our defenses! Destroy the bridge!”

Conversation (Karin, Misha)

Karin:
“General Misha, the Empire is a hated enemy for us Ciledians as well? Why are you helping them!”

Misha:
“I have something which I must protect… That’s all…”

Karin:
“…Something you have to protect…?”

Misha:
“It doesn’t concern you. Now go… Our attack is starting.”

Church

Sara:
“……”

Bishop:
“Sara, where are you going?”

Sara:
“……”

Bishop:
“Oh, are you from the Liberation Army? Did she say something to you? Please forget it. She mumbles strange things from time to time. She can be an odd girl at times.”

Sara:
“…I’ll go…”

Bishop:
“Go? Go where?”

Sara:
“…I’ll go… I’ll go with this person…”

Bishop:
“Go with… But this person is from the military. Sara? Wait, Sara!”

Sara:
“I’ll go… Please take me with you…”

Fighting Nicaraf

Nicaraf:
“You’re not strong enough to defeat me! Come on!”

Defeating Nicaraf

Nicaraf:
“Guh… You’re…better…than I…thought…”

Fighting Moore

Moore:
“……”

Defeating Moore

Moore:
“…Dear Lopto… I shall give my life…to your new age…”

Releasing Moore

Moore:
“……”

Fighting Misha

Misha:
“Do you dare stand in my path!”

Defeating Misha

Misha:
“Ha…haha… So I’m going…to my mother’s…Dietova’s place…too…”

Releasing Misha

Misha:
“I thank you for letting me live. But I must fight…”

Fighting Mueler

Mueler:
“Fear the wrath of the Gelpritter!”

Defeating Mueler

Mueler:
“Gah… How…could we lose…”

Releasing Mueler

Mueler:
“…Hmph…”

Fighting Cyas

Cyas:
“Withdraw your blade… You are no match for me…”

After beating the map

Dorias:
“We have managed to breach the castle gate, but there are still many enemies waiting inside. Be on your guard, Lord Leaf.”

Leaf:
“We’ll have to clear them out in a single stroke, even if we’re pushing our troops. Count Gustav has been oppressing Lenster’s people as the right hand man of King Blume. I can’t imagine how many people have been ordered to their deaths…”

August:
“Exactly. We must kill Gustav and hang his head from the castle gate! There is no need for mercy, Lord Leaf. You must carry out your duties as the lord of Lenster!”

(If Karin talked to Misha, and you captured Misha)

Dorias:
“Lord Leaf, we have captured a commander of Ciledia. What should we do?”

Leaf:
“I want to see her. Are you the commander of the Ciledian mercenaries?”

Misha:
“I have no need for sympathy! If you’re going to kill me, just do it!”

Dorias:
“It is fruitless, Lord Leaf. Ciledian Pegasus Knights put honor above all. She wouldn’t be able to bear living in captivity after leading her troops to their deaths. We should respect her wishes and put her out of her misery…”

Karin:
“No, Count Dorias! Misha, you have something to protect, don’t you? What are you going to do if you die here! What’s going to happen to the children waiting for you in Ciledia!”

Misha:
“! …Where did you hear…”

Karin:
“A member of your squad told me. I saw her wounded and tried to help her… Then she told me… …I never knew. I never knew that so many people were suffering in places under Imperial control… So many children are just… starving to death. She told me that she became a mercenary to earn money to buy food with.”

Misha:
“……”

August:
“You are wrong, Lady Misha. It is in no way forgiveable to put other children in suffering to save your own. Child hunting has been going on in the Empire and Thracia. Ciledia will not be an exception, either. Who will protect your children then?”

Misha:
“Child hunting…? What are you talking about?”

Leaf:
“You don’t know… In that case, you need to live and look at reality. I want you to understand our sorrow and suffering!”

Misha:
“…I’m sorry. I…need to think this over…”
