As always, every character belongs to a job class, which influences their stats and determine what class abilities they have access to.

In Three Houses, you and your students all start off in the Commoner or Noble class. This is similar to the Villager class in previous titles–an extremely weak class that excels at nothing.

After improving the character’s Skill Levels (aptitudes in Sword, Lance, Axe, Authority etc.) via fighting or studying, the character can take an exam to upgrade to a different, usually stronger class.

An item (for example, an Intermediate Seal) is required to take an exam and the pass rate depends on the Skill Levels. The closer to the suggested Skill Levels, the higher the success rate. If the success rate is below 30%, the exam cannot be taken.

Unlike most titles in the series, changing class does not reset a character’s Level. Also, character can equip most weapon types in any class, although there are some restrictions (Gauntlets cannot be used while riding and magic is limited to select classes).

Furthermore, there are no definitive class paths, like Mercenary must become Hero. Characters can jump between any classes they like (barring restrictions), so long as they have the Skill Levels to pass the relevant exams.

Notes:

  • If a class has proficient weapon(s), Skill Level gain is boosted when those weapons are equipped.
  • The “recommended” Skill Levels correspond to the Skill Levels suggested during the exam to change to that the class.

Noble

Leaders of highborn lineage, many nobles are descended from the 10 Elites, heroes of old. [This class can use some magic.]
