Characters belong to a job class, which influences their stats and determine what class abilities they have access to.

After improving a character’s Skill Levels (aptitudes in Sword, Lance, Axe, Authority etc.) via fighting or studying, the character can change class by taking an exam.

Unlike most titles in the series, characters can equip most weapon types in any class, although there are some restrictions (Gauntlets cannot be used while riding and magic is limited to select classes).

Furthermore, there are no definitive class paths, like Mercenary must become Hero. Characters can jump between any classes they like (barring restrictions), so long as they have the Skill Levels to pass the relevant exams.

  • If a class has proficient weapon(s), Skill Level gain is boosted when those weapons are equipped.
  • The “recommended” Skill Levels correspond to the Skill Levels suggested during the exam to change to that the class.
