Fire Emblem Warriors is home to a wide variety of enemies, with different ways of being approached.

Weak Enemies

Low-Level Troops

The most common enemy you'll encounter are, of course, the large hordes of weak enemies you'll blow away by the thousands. They come in six different varieties; five of them are defined by the weapon type they carry, be it swords, lances, axes, tomes, or bows, while the sixth is the weakest, red-colored form of the Outrealm Fiends. They do not drop any materials on defeat.

Low-Level Captains

These enemies are generally mixed in with the large swarms of generic troops. They can be distinguished by their slightly larger size and more ornate helmet, or in the case of the Outrealm Fiends, their prominent horns. They are slightly stronger and more aggressive than the generic troops, but are still weak. On defeat, they may drop a bronze material such as a Captain's Sword, Captain's Lance, Captain's Axe, Captain's Tome, Captain's Bow, or Monster's Claw depending on their type. They may also drop tonics.

Outpost Captains

Outpost Captains are the same as the low-level captains listed directly above, but as their name suggests they guard Outposts. Eliminating an Outpost Captain will claim the Outpost for your army; conversely, when your Outpost Captain is defeated, the enemy will claim it. Unlike the other captains, these enemies have a displayed health meter and can be locked onto. Their drops are the same, however.

Strong Enemies

Myrmidons

The basic sword infantry unit. Myrmidons use a simplified version of Ryoma's moveset. Their promoted form is called a Swordmaster.

The Hoshidan army calls them Samurai/Swordmasters, while the Nohrian army calls them Mercenaries/Heroes.

Myrmidons of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Myrmidon's Breechcloth, and their rare drop is the Myrmidon's Head Guard.

Soldier

The basic lance infantry unit. Soldiers use a unique moveset. Their promoted form is called a Halberdier.

The Hoshidan army calls them Spear Fighters/Spear Masters.

Soldiers of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Soldier's Waist Guard, and their rare drop is the Soldier's Helmet.

Fighter

The basic axe infantry unit. Fighters use a unique moveset. Their promoted form is called a Warrior.

The Hoshidan army calls them Oni Savages/Oni Chieftains, while the Nohrian army calls them Axe Fighters/Berserkers.

Fighters of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Axe Fighter's Glove, and their rare drop is the Axe Fighter's Helmet.

Archer

The basic bow infantry unit. Archers use a simplified version of Takumi/Sakura/Anna's moveset. Their promoted form is called a Sniper.

Archers of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Archer's Breastplate, and their rare drop is the Archer's Shoulder Pad.

Mage

The basic tome infantry unit. Mages use a simplified version of Robin's moveset. Their promoted form is called a Sage.

The Hoshidan army calls them Diviners/Onmyojis, while the Nohrian army calls them Dark Mages/Sorcerors.

Mages of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Mage's Mask, and their rare drop is the Mage's Robe.

Thief

A rare type of sword infantry. Thieves use a simplified version of Ryoma's moveset. Their promoted form is called an Assassin.

The Hoshidan army calls them Ninja/Master Ninja. The Nohrian army calls them Outlaws/Adventurers.

Thieves of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Outlaw's Bracer, and their rare drop is the Outlaw's Mask.

Knight

A special type of lance infantry. Knights use a unique moveset. Their promoted form is called a General.

The Hoshidan army calls them Armored Knights/Shield Masters.

Knights of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Knight's Shielf, and their rare drop is the Knight's Pauldron.

Knights are armored units, and thus take effective damage from Armorslayer weapons.

Cavalier

The basic sword cavalry unit. Cavaliers use a simplified version of Xander's moveset. Their promoted form is called a Paladin.

The Hoshidan army calls them Expert Riders/Master Riders.

Cavaliers of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Cavalier's Greaves, and their rare drop is the Cavalier's Saddle.

Cavaliers are mounted units, and thus take effective damage from Mountslayer weapons.

Pegasus Knight

The lance flying unit. Pegasus Knights use a simplified version of Hinoka/Cordelia/Caeda's moveset. Their promoted form is called a Falcon Knight.

The Hoshidan army calls them Sky Knights/Falcon Knights.

Pegasus Knights of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Pegasus Knight's Down, and their rare drop is the Pegasus Knight's Visor.

Pegasus Knights are flying units, and thus take effective damage from Wingslayer weapons.

Wyvern Rider

The axe flying unit. Wyvern Riders use a simplified version of Camilla's moveset. Their promoted form is called a Wyvern Lord.

Wyvern Riders of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Wyvern Rider's Talon, and their rare drop is the Wyvern Rider's Tasses.

Wyvern Riders are both flying and draconic units, and thus take effective damage from Wingslayer and Dracoslayer weapons.

Great Knight

The axe cavalry unit. Great Knights use a simplified version of Frederick's moveset. Their promoted form is called a Guardian Knight.

Great Knights of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Great Knight's Gauntlet, and their rare drop is the Great Knight's Barding.

Great Knights are both armored and mounted units, and thus take effective damage from Armorslayer and Mountslayer weapons.

Manakete

A powerful dragonstone unit. Manaketes use a modified version of Tiki's Awakening Mode moveset. Their promoted form is called a Fafnir.

The Hoshidan army calls them Ryujin/Great Ryujin.

Manaketes of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Manakete's Scale, and their rare drop is the Manakete's Tail.

Manaketes are draconic units, and thus take effective damage from Dracoslayer weapons.

Outrealm Fiend

A powerful claw unit. Outrealm Fiends use a unique moveset. Their promoted form shares the same name, but their purple color scheme becomes yellow.

Outrealm Fiends of all types can drop tonics, weapons, or materials on defeat. Their common drop is the Monster's Fang, and their rare drop is the Monster's Horns.

Outrealm Fiends are monstrous units, and thus take effective damage from Beastslayer weapons.

Special Enemy Types

Fort Captain

Fort Captains guard forts, as their name suggests. Each Fort Captain is one of the strong enemy types listed above (even Manaketes or Outrealm Fiends), and behaves the same way, but upon defeat the fort they're guarding is ceded to the army that defeated them.

Priest

Priests appear in some missions. They are a special variant of a Mage that can heal their nearby allies.

The Hoshidan army calls them Monks/Great Masters, while the Nohrian army calls them Butlers.

Rally Captain

Rally Captains appear in some missions. They behave identically to any of the standard strong enemy types, but their presence on the battlefield will boost the morale of other troops, making them dangerous if left alone.

Messenger

Messengers appear in some missions. They behave identically to any of the standard strong enemy types, but will focus on reaching a specific destination rather than combat. If they do so, reinforcements will be summoned.

Summoner

Summoners appear in some missions. They are a special variant of a Mage that can call more enemy troops onto the map remotely. Some Summoners will only summon weak troops, while others may summon strong enemies or even boss characters.
