Chapter 18: The Liberation of Lenster

On the World Map

After breaching the gate, the Liberation Army charged inside the castle.

They headed straight for their prize…the throne.

Leaf’s long-awaited dream of his nation’s reconstruction was about to become a reality at last…

Opening Cutscene

Gustav:
“Xavier! I trust you understand!”

Xavier:
“…Understand what?”

Gustav:
“I kept a loser like you alive and used you as my right-hand man this past decade. I trust you haven’t forgotten my kindness!”

Xavier:
“Well… I have been doing my best to serve you as well.”

Gustav:
“Yes, you have been quite useful. So I have also been trying my best to give you what you want as well.”

Xavier:
“Ha…”

Gustav:
“What? Is there a problem? What is it?”

Xavier:
“It is too late… Those who have fallen will never come back.”

Gustav:
“Er… But, Xavier, you are just as guilty as I am. You are hated by your people as a dirty traitor. They won’t welcome you even if you tried to rejoin them.”

Xavier:
“I know that! How could I possibly show my face to them now… Have no fear, Count Gustav. I am a warrior, and I shall die like one!”

(Scene switches to Leaf)

Leaf:
“August, are you sure splitting up our forces is such a good idea?”

August:
“We are better off dividing into two groups to protect the castle’s treasure. We also need to rescue the hostages.”

Leaf:
“What about persuading General Xavier?”

August:
“That will be a difficult task. We are going to release the hostages and have them talk to General Xavier’s lieutenants, but it will be all over if they are seen by Imperial troops. Be careful…”

Leaf:
“All right. Everyone, let’s go! Let’s fly the flag of the Gae Bolg from our castle once again!”

The 8 Lieutenants (The civilians talking to Xavier’s troops)

(Lieutenant 1)

Girl:
“Daddy! Don’t do this any more!”

Lieutenant:
“You’re all right! Thank goodness… Your safety is all that matters now… Let’s go!”

(Lieutenant 2)

Woman:
“Oh…! Is it really you?”

Lieutenant:
“You’re all right! I don’t need to stay here any longer. Let’s go home…”

(Lieutenant 3)

Boy:
“Dad! It’s me!”

Lieutenant:
“What… How did you get here!? …Well, that doesn’t matter. All right, let’s get out of here!”

(Lieutenant 4)

Woman:
“Stop! You don’t have to fight any more!”

Lieutenant:
“…All I ever wished for was your safety. Okay, let’s go!”

(Lieutenant 5)

Woman:
“Hey! What are you doing here? Come on, we have to go!”

Lieutenant:
“Well, I had no choice because you were captured… H-Hey, wait!”

(Lieutenant 6)

Old man:
“I’m sorry you had to go through this for me…”

Lieutenant:
“It’s okay, Dad, just as long as you’re safe. Let’s go…”

(Lieutenant 7)

Woman:
“……”

Lieutenant:
“It’s okay, Mother… You don’t have to say anything. Let’s go home…”

(Lieutenant 8)

Girl:
“Sniff…Daddy…”

Lieutenant:
“Don’t worry… Everything’s going to be okay. Let’s go home together…”

Conversation (Leaf, Xavier)

Leaf:
“General Xavier!?”

Xavier:
“Prince Leaf… You have grown so much. I’ve always wanted to see you one last time. I have no regrets now.”

Leaf:
“What are you saying, Xavier… I…”

Xavier:
“No. No matter what my reasons were, there is no denying that we betrayed our lord. But I am the only one to blame. My lieutenants are innocent…they simply followed my commands. Please forgive them.”

Leaf:
“Xavier… Please rise, Xavier. I am the one who must apologize. I abandoned my people and fled when they needed me most… I was unable to fulfill even one responsibility as a ruler. But you… You stayed here and fulfilled my duties in my place all on your own.
…Thank you, Xavier.”

Xavier:
“Lord Leaf… I… I am grateful that I have lived to this day… I would never have thought that such a day would come again…”

Dorias:
“Xavier, I must apologize as well. Forgive me…”

Xavier:
“Count Dorias… How can you ask me to forgive you… I was…”

Dorias:
“Xavier, Lord Leaf needs a man like you at his side. Help him will all of your strength.”

Xavier:
“Yes… If an old man like me would suffice… My only wish was to fight against the Empire. There is nothing more that I could ask!”

Fighting Xavier

Xavier:
“…Very well…”

Defeating Xavier

Xavier:
“Forgive me…Lord…Leaf… Glory be to Lenster!”

Releasing Xavier

Xavier:
“I cannot live in shame any longer… This is the end…”

Fighting Gustav

Gustav:
“Never! Never will I lose to you infidels!”

Defeating Gustav

Gustav:
“Guh… This…can’t…be…”

After beating the map

Dorias:
“Lord Leaf, we have completely secured the castle. It has been 14 long years…and Lenster has finally returned to our hands again!”

Leaf:
“Dorias…thank you. It’s all thanks to you that I was able to come this far. Thank you.”

Dorias:
“Lord Leaf…”

(If Finn is alive)

Leaf:
“Finn…we’re home. It’s always been my dream to come back to Lenster with you… Thank you…truly.”

Finn:
“Lord Leaf…”

(If Miranda is alive)

Miranda:
“Prince Leaf! I’m sorry to interrupt, but what about our promise?”

Leaf:
“Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten. I will liberate Alster.”

Miranda:
“Then we must go, now! Before it’s too late!”

Leaf:
“What do you mean? Did something happen at Alster?”

Miranda:
“The civilians are planning a rebellion. But they can’t win…they’ll only be massacred. Please, Prince Leaf, we need your help. Please save Alster!”

(If Miranda is dead/captured, or if you didn’t recruit her)

August:
“Prince, I’m sorry to interrupt, but there is someone here to see you. She says she came from Alster… Wait! The prince hasn’t yet given permission…”

Woman:
“Prince Leaf!? Please… We need you! Please save Alster!”

Leaf:
“Alster? What do you mean? What happened?”

Woman:
“I’m sure you’re aware, but Alster has gone under Imperial rule, and is permitted to exist in return for absolute submission. But the Empire’s oppression has been getting worse every day. And yesterday, the civilians who couldn’t take it any more started a rebellion.”

Leaf:
“A rebellion… There’s no way they’ll win with just civilians. Has the Alster army joined?”

Woman:
“No… We begged for Count Conomore’s aid, but he only told us to wait. We stood up without any support… But the rebellion was a failure. The Empire used force to suppress us, and many of us were killed. Prince Leaf, I beg you. Please help the people of Alster!”

Leaf:
“All right. We’ll get going immediately.”

Dorias:
“No, Lord Leaf! I understand how you feel, but we don’t have the manpower to save Alster. Right now, we should stay here build up our forces to defend Lenster!”

August:
“I agree with Count Dorias. We cannot fight the Empire head-on and win. You must not underestimate the Empire, Lord Leaf! Our victories thus far have merely been because of their mistakes. Don’t forget that!”

Leaf:
“Then you’re both telling me to sit here and watch the people of Alster die!? Alster sheltered me after I escaped from Lenster and had nowhere else to go. My father would never forgive me if I abandoned my benefactors in the face of danger! If you still refuse to go, then I’ll go alone. You two can stay here and wait!”

August:
“Well… I thought he had grown a little these past months, but it seems Lord Leaf is still a child…”

Dorias:
“…Very well. We shall go to Alster’s aid. I will go first taking half of our troops. Lord Leaf, you must depart with the rest of them tomorrow morning. Is that all right, August?”

August:
“…… I see… …Then allow me to lead the first wave.”

Dorias:
“The prince needs you. I ask you to stay at his side. August, we didn’t always see things eye to eye, but we never would have come this far without you. …Please support the prince from now on as well.”

August:
“…… …Very well… If you insist.”

Leaf:
“Dorias, why can’t we take our whole army? If you’re going first, I’ll go with you.”

Dorias:
“Prince! Stop acting like a child! Our troops are exhausted. Many of them have pushed themselves to impossible limits, with only the hope of liberating Lenster keeping them going. Look, Lord Leaf, they are all fast asleep from fatigue. But if you depart now, they will force themselves to accompany you. Do you want to put them through such harsh measures?”

Leaf:
“…I’m sorry, Dorias. You’re right. But will half the army be enough?”

Dorias:
“…With the Empire gone, many soldiers who were hiding and others who were forced to fight for the Empire have joined our ranks. They will make up for the difference somewhat.”

Leaf:
“All right. We’ll depart tomorrow as soon as we’re ready. I’m counting on you, Dorias. Help the people of Alster!”

Dorias:
“Yes. …Lord Leaf, I must tell you something very important before I leave.”

Leaf:
“Something important? Does it have to be now?”

Dorias:
“Yes. Lenster has been liberated, and our kingdom has been reestablished. You are now officially the next heir to Lenster…you have now truly become a ‘Prince.’ Please be an honorable and just ruler, like your father before you.”

Leaf:
“Oh, is that all. Of course I will. I need to become stronger… My fight isn’t over until I rescue Eyvel. You’ll come with me to Manster, right, Dorias?”

Dorias:
“Yes… Well…I must be off. May God bless you, Lord Leaf!”

(If you kept the NPC soldiers with Javelins alive)

August:
“There are some people here to see you… They say we saved them from forced labor.”

Leaf:
“All right. Let them pass.”

Soldier:
“Prince Leaf, congratulations on recapturing Lenster. You have saved us soldiers from the Empire as well. Please take this as a token of our gratitude.”
