Alear x Rafal

Alear: There you are, Rafal. I’ve been looking for you.
Rafal: You. What do you need?
Alear: Nothing. I just wanted to express my gratitude. I haven’t had the chance to do it properly.
Alear: So, thank you for coming to the Somniel. I’m grateful that you’ve joined us.
Rafal: I promised that we would meet again if my sister were to wake and forgive me.
Rafal: To go back on my word would be an insult to that miraculous gift.
Rafal: Thus, I am here. The price for my allegiance has already been paid. There is no need for thanks.
Alear: Even so, your continued support means a lot to me. I can thank you for that, at least.
Rafal: You are a strange one.
Rafal: It is absurd for you to trust me at all after what I have done. To be friendly is beyond the pale.
Alear: What if I just want you to be happy, after all we’ve been through? Would that be so wrong?
Alear: It’s not like I could’ve let things end with you and Nel at odds. That would break my heart.
Alear: Deep down, I know you’re a good person. And I happen to like you.
Rafal: You…like me?
Rafal: Is that truly what people say?
Alear: Why not? What’s wrong with it?
Rafal: Enough! Do you have no duties of your own to attend to? Leave me be!
Alear: Hey, wait a second!

Alear: Great weather we’re having today, wouldn’t you say, Rafal? Perfect for a long walk.
Rafal: You. Did you retain nothing of what I said?
Rafal: Did I not tell you to leave me be?
Alear: I remember, but I have so much I want to talk to you about that I couldn’t possibly stay away.
Rafal: You could at least sound less pleased with yourself about it. The tone is not endearing.
Rafal: Very well then, out with it. What is it you wished to discuss?
Alear: I was going to ask you about all your likes and dislikes, but if I have to pick just one topic…
Alear: I’d like to know how you spent your time while you were waiting for Nel to wake up.
Rafal: There is little to know. I waited. Alone.
Rafal: If you insist on details… I held her hand, and I prayed continually that she would wake.
Rafal: I prayed for another opportunity to be a brother to her. A proper one this time.
Rafal: I wanted the chance to make her happy. And above all, I wanted her to know my true name.
Alear: I see…
Rafal: Beyond that, my thoughts were simple. If she does not wake today, then perhaps tomorrow.
Rafal: Before I knew it, a thousand years had passed.
Alear: My mother’s experience must have been similar.
Rafal: The time was nothing to me. The days prior to her awakening were an insignificant blur.
Rafal: But I will never forget the smile she gave me on the day she finally woke.
Rafal: At any rate, that is all there is to tell. She woke, we came here, and you know the rest.
Alear: You say that like waiting a thousand years was trivial. It wasn’t. Not just anyone could do that.
Rafal: Your praise is uncalled for. My motivations were entirely selfish, I assure you.
Rafal: All the same, I do not think I would have done it if not for what you said before we parted ways.
Rafal: In that regard, you are as responsible for Nel’s return as I am. And you have my thanks.
Alear: Haha, you sounded a bit like Nel just then.
Alear: You might say the resemblance between you is almost familial at this point.
Rafal: After all that, you mock me?! This conversation was a mistake.
Alear: No, Rafal. I didn’t mean─
Rafal: Enough of this prattle! Goodbye!

Rafal: You. Take these.
Alear: Huh? What’s this? A bundle of… Oh, there are sweets inside!
Rafal: The kitchen staff held me hostage until I made these confections. I did what had to be done.
Alear: You made these from scratch? For me? They look wonderful, Rafal! Thank you so much!
Alear: Do you mind if I have some now?
Rafal: Do as you like, though there is something you should know.
Rafal: The treats come in two varieties. One is quite ordinary, while the other is a…special flavor.
Alear: I’ll admit I’m curious, but I think I’ll save the special kind for last. Let’s try a regular one.
Alear: cough Sweet! Too sweet! Ugh, it burns! Is it supposed to burn?!
Alear: You call that ordinary flavor?!
Rafal: Hahaha! This whole endeavor was worth it for the look on your face alone.
Rafal: I should have clarified─I meant ordinary for me. Any less sweet than that and I taste nothing.
Alear: I shudder to think what your idea of a special flavor is. I don’t know if I have it in me.
Rafal: If the fear is too much to bear, you can simply give them away. Or discard them altogether.
Alear: You know better than to suggest that. OK, you’ve convinced me. Here goes nothing!
Alear: Oh. Oh wow. This one’s amazing. It’s all my favorite flavors combined in perfect balance…
Rafal: With your sensitive palate in mind, I used an exceptionally small amount of each flavoring.
Alear: So that’s what you meant by special.
Rafal: I would encourage you to savor these treats, because they are the last I will ever produce.
Rafal: Not that I regret the effort spent. As folk here say, actions are stronger gratitude than words.
Alear: It’s been an incredible experience. Thank you. I can tell you put your heart into making them.
Alear: There’s just one problem, Rafal.
Rafal: What is that?
Alear: How am I supposed to find room in my stomach for dinner?!
Rafal: Hm-hm! Walk it off, Divine One.

Alear: Thanks for giving me a hand with the supplies. I couldn’t have done all that without you.
Rafal: I had some spare time. Think nothing of it.
Alear: It wasn’t nothing, though. You did almost all the heavy lifting.
Alear: I should make it up to you. Oh, I know─how about I brew you a nice cup of tea later?
Rafal: Your gentle demeanor perplexes me. How can you be so caring in the middle of a bitter war?
Rafal: I was shocked to learn that you are a Fell Dragon in this world.
Rafal: If you had been born one of my siblings, your disposition would have led you to a quick death.
Alear: Hm-hm! Tell me how you really feel.
Rafal: These are not my feelings. These are facts.
Rafal: You are helpful to a fault, heedless of your own burdens, and recklessly curious. In short, a fool.
Alear: You seem to kind of enjoy spending your time around fools lately.
Alear: You journeyed from another world to risk your life for a fool─who’s very grateful, incidentally.
Rafal: Say what you like.
Alear: I will, because even if you’d never admit it, I know that you listen and you care.
Alear: I see that clearly now.
Rafal: Heh…
Alear: But you said actions express gratitude better than words, Rafal, and you were right.
Alear: I’ve been thinking about it for a while now, and I’ve decided I want you to have this.
Rafal: Is that what I think it is?
Alear: It’s the Pact Ring─a symbol of a deep and special bond. A partnership.
Rafal: I may possess superficial charm, but giving this to me would be foolish even by your standard.
Rafal: Moreover, it would be wrong. I have done nothing to earn such an honor.
Rafal: Any partner of yours should be more…pure.
Alear: I’m a Fell Dragon just like you, remember? You said so yourself.
Alear: I fought on Sombron’s side once too. I’m every bit as “impure” as you are.
Rafal: Even so…
Alear: You’re the one I want to give this to, Rafal. You and nobody else.
Alear: You’re already an indispensable part of my life. I’m only asking you to continue to be that.
Rafal:
Rafal: When you put it that way, it seems I have little choice. Who else will keep an eye on you?
Rafal: Very well, you have my word. I will remain by your side, fighting for your cause, until the end.
Rafal: Even if the rest of the world should turn against you, I will be here. I swear it.
Alear: Thank you. That means a great deal to me.
Rafal: I will only say this once, so mark me well.
Rafal: You said that you wanted me to be happy.
Rafal: When I first came here, I was content merely to embark upon a new life as a new person.
Rafal: But the more time I spend with you, the more I… miss you when you are absent.
Rafal: So, in return for my oath, I would like you to swear something to me, _____.
Rafal: Swear that you will never leave my side─that we will explore what the future holds together.
