Berwick Saga – Beta Translation available and Stream this evening

Berwick Saga Beta Patch Available!

Serenes Forest users Aethin and Lightgazer have been hard at work over the past year to create an English translation patch to Berwick Saga, a game in the TearRing Saga series created by Fire Emblem creator Shouzou Kaga after his departure from Intelligent Systems in 2000. Despite not officially being part of the Fire Emblem series, Berwick Saga and its predecessor TearRing Saga are generally included as honorary members of the series due to their gameplay similarities and their connection through Shouzou Kaga.

Berwick Saga was released in December 2005 for the PlayStation 2, though it has received relatively little attention in the West due to the lack of a translation. Working off the tools created by the Chinese community for their fan translation, Lightgazer created new programs that have facilitated editing of the game’s images and text. The project is far from complete (Aethin says roughly one-fifth of the game’s text is finished), but this patch is intended to showcase what the project is capable of. No release date has been set for the full patch, but Aethin and Lightgazer are hard at work completing the patch. To show off the new translation, Aethin and LordRaven are hosting a stream on LordRaven’s twitch (http://twitch.tv/lraven17) starting today at 5:30 PM EST.

The patch can be found in the first post of this thread on the forums. Aethin has specifically requested that players of the beta patch read the FAQ and list of known issues with the patch before reporting bugs or errors. Please check there for further details. Patch Credits: Translator: Aethin
Programmer: Lightgazer
Special Thanks: – the Chinese FE community, for sharing their tools, and members of the /r/fireemblem discord, for development feedback
