Cipher S22 Weekly Recap: Trueblade Mia, ad posters, and more!

Welcome to a new installment of our weekly recap series of Series 22 of Fire Emblem Cipher. Launching as a new booster expansion dubbed The Heroes’ Paean, this all-star set serves as conclusion to the Japanese trading card game’s five-year run.

In the weeks leading up to its October 1st release, the official Twitter account, @FEcipher, is revealing the latest cards each weekday, and we’ll be looking over them together as an overview of what’s to come!

The first day introduced cards of Hinoka, the eldest princess of Hoshido from Fates. With expertise in all kinds of pole weapons like the Bolt Naginata and magical rods like the Sun Festal, the warrior princess delivers her comrades from danger. As a Falcon Knight, Hinoka will be appearing as one of the Rare cards of the booster.

Next, a look was given at cards of Alfonse from Heroes, appearing as one of the joint Super Rares, as well as an alternative Super Rare Plus edition with different visual flair. Emboldened by the Heroes at his side, time and time again does Alfonse stand against threats to his homeland like the lady of nightmare Freyja. Both versions of the card are drawn by artist Niji Hayashi, who recently began contributing illustrations to Heroes with Eldigan: Strutting Lion.

Following that, we were presented with new cards of Mia from Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn. A swordswoman of the Greil Mercenaries who trains tirelessly with the aim of becoming the strongest there is, Mia makes her long overdue debut in Cipher as the peerless Trueblade class for her Rare card.

Afterwards, a card was shared of Caeda from Shadow Dragon & the Blade of Light, Mystery of the Emblem, Shadow Dragon, and New Mystery of the Emblem, yet another Rare card for the set. This time around, Caeda is joined by birds of a feather from across the Fire Emblem series in her latest recruitment effort (can you name them all?), and can dish out Triangle Attacks in the name of love!

Lastly, a new card of Roy from The Binding Blade was showcased, to be available as both a Super Rare and Super Rare Plus in the booster like this week’s Alfonse. Raising an army against the Bern kingdom’s invasion of the continent of Elibe with the eponymous sword in hand, Roy takes heart at the war’s conclusion that humans and dragons may coexist peacefully once more.

As an extra update, here is our last reminder that the new promotional card of Claude from Three Houses via Nintendo Dream magazine, which was revealed in advance last month via the publication’s official Twitter, will finally see circulation this Friday, September 19th. Two copies of this holographic card come included with the upcoming issue, and are accompanied by an exclusive interview with Claude’s Japanese voice actor, Toshiyuki Toyonaga.

You can order your own copy of the print magazine with the bundled card online via Amazon JP, which ships internationally.

In related news, advertisement posters for Series 22 have begun appearing at card shops across Japan. Thanks to the curator of Grand Panda Canyon Akihabara’s Twitter, we have close-up images of a selection of never-before-seen booster cards belonging to Miranda, Deirdre, Azura, and Mamori Minamoto. Keen-eyed folks may also notice the card quotes for various SRs across the top of each poster, most notably for some such as male Byleth whose card proper has not been formally revealed yet.

As a reminder, don’t forget that alongside the launch of the Series 22 booster will be the kick-off of the next wave of organized tournament events held by officially sanctioned card shops across Japan for the month of October.

As thank-you for participating, these stores will hand out one per person the next (and presumably final) installment in the Promotional Card Pack series, Volume 22. Each card pack contains two out of six exclusive promo cards sorted randomly, featuring Marth, female Byleth, Lucina, female Corrin, Lyn, and Seliph.

Full details of the schedule for these regular events can be found on the official site (as well as for the women’s-only meets).

To cap things off, Intelligent Systems gave another reminder about the last-ever episode of their livestream shows dedicated to sharing updates about Cipher, scheduled to air on Saturday, September 26th at 4:00 AM PT.

Aptly titled the Final Live Broadcast, invited guests Michihiko Hagi (voice of Ike from Path of Radiance and Radiant Dawn), Lynn (voice of Azura from Fates), Yusuke Kozaki (Fire Emblem series artist), and others will come together and look back on the TCG as they open Series 22 booster packs. Fans may send in postcards (either by mail or online) to show their support until September 23rd, and are invited to answer the episode’s prompt: your memories with Cipher.

Save the date and watch the two-hour show live via YouTube and NicoNico. Full details of this event can be found on the official site.

That’s all for this week’s recap! As the release draws further near, we’d like to give a heads up that next week’s recap will be our very last as we prepare to cover the launch coming soon.
