Echoes: New English Footage

Some English-voiced versions of Fire Emblem Echoes Shadows of Valentia have made their way to a select few, and some of those select few have been kind enough to post videos of their adventures through the game.

NintenDann takes us through the first portions of the game, showing us English-translated and English-voiced gameplay for some of the first battles in the game, as well as exploration through the game’s first dungeon.

Blind players beware, however, as plenty of early game spoilers exist beyond this line.

To start things off, we see Alm and co. engage the enemy at the Southern Outpost, while showing off Gray and Tobin’s battle conversation. Interestingly, Lukas is known to be of legal age, but cannot consume the Ram Wine; this is the same in the Japanese version. In-game data suggests that alcohol can be consumed by characters age 20 or older, so…scrapped feature perhaps?

Not much sooner, Alm begins navigating through the first dungeon of the game, the Thieves’ Shrine. In here, he demonstrates how the exploration-based battle system works. Alm makes many voiced comments while meandering through the darkness and smashing boxes for loot, all before taking on the Brigand Boss.

In Part 2, Silque is recruited, we get a glimpse at some early base conversations and a whole load of characters are promoted (Gray to Mercenary, Kliff to Archer, Faye to Cavalier and Tobin to Mage), all before wrapping up the Thieves’ Shrine.

Later, Celica battles on Zofia Seaway 3 with an enemy Cantor, and demonstrating Mae’s conversation with Boey. In this case, Cantor refers to a Shaman-like class, which has the ability to summon enemy monsters. This is an interesting interpretation of the Japanese name, so it comes as a neat surprise.

Additionally, we can see a few names, such as Valbar’s (currently unforged and therefore, useless) equipped Rusted Shield, and the Golden Dagger’s Plentitude skill (synonymous with what we’ve previously identified as Abundance).

Lastly, we’re introduced to the cutscene for Act 2: The Pilgrimage. Alm faces off against the brutal Rudolf in Celica’s dream, while Celica herself awakens, short of breath and filled with concern.
