Cipher Spring 2020 Livestream Recap: New S21 Cards, S22 Art, and More!

Welcome to our recap of the Spring 2020 episode of the regularly scheduled show about Fire Emblem Cipher, where Intelligent Systems broadcasts news about the Japanese trading card game.

New card artwork of the Gatekeeper from Three Houses, shared by the official Twitter account, @FEcipher, shortly before the show.

We’ll be touching on the highlights of the livestream for all your Cipher needs, so continue reading to learn more.

As usual, the show starts with introducing Cipher producer Ryota Kawade and Kubocchan from Intelligent Systems. Due to circumstances, they are using additional communication methods to have Juri Kimura (voice of Yuzu from Cipher and Mozu and Nyx from Fates) with them from long distance.

The first big news the group has to share today is with regards to merchandise. Volumes 19 and 20 of the Cipher Artworks books have been announced. But with no major events in sight, how will they be sold?

The answer is this: in the future, the official online store from Intelligent Systems will expand to include many Cipher products from events old and new! They note that stock will be of leftovers and won’t be around indefinitely, so keep that in mind.

Now let’s take a look at the upcoming booster coming out June 25th, Tempest of Apocalyptic Flame. As we know by now, it features characters from Three HousesThe Binding BladeThe Blazing Blade, and Heroes.

Here’s all the extra stuff you can find inside the new booster boxes: a box topper promo card of either Marth or male Byleth, a 5th anniversary commemorative promo card of either Celica or Lyn — and while supplies last, a 5-pack set of original card sleeves of either Dimitri or Claude. These details can be found on the official site here.

Note: The aforementioned page also indicates that Edelgard will be appearing, Sharena will see at least two different cards, and some blurry card data for Hilda.

Following up from the previous one, there will be a new launch campaign at participating stores where Cipher shoppers can score an original can badge of either Dimitri, Claude, or Eliwood. These details can be found on the official site here.

And with regards to the monthly round of special marker cards given out at store tourneys, the month of June will include the previous wave of cards being given out this month to choose from, to compensate the fact events have been difficult to host as of late. May’s cards were male Corrin, Nyx, Micaiah, and Elincia, while June’s cards will be female Corrin, Sakura, Ike, and Laura. These details can be found on the official site here.

Speaking of store tourney cards, here are the new promo cards which can be randomly found in the Volume 21 card pack starting next month!

We are now bringing in guest of honor Junya Enoki (voice of Yuri from Three Houses) to keep things interesting, and are having a little snack break before continuing with more card reveals of the upcoming set. Note that we will be skipping over cards we have already covered prior to this post.

During an intermission, a quiz segment was held with everyone, testing their Fire Emblem knowledge with topics relating to the new Cipher set like matching siblings, what flowers Triandra and Plumeria are based on, and how many clones of Rutger show up while he performs a critical hit.

After that, we have our fan mail segment where one lucky person who answered the prompt of what they liked about Three Houses won a one-of-a-kind playmat based on today’s episode and Yuri.

Let’s take another look at some more new cards out next month!

Finally, here’s a sneak peek of the future of Cipher, the very last set releasing in October: The Heroes’ Paean! Note that some of the following artworks are not yet finished.

Mr. Kawade presents an update on the special backdrop created for thirteen conjoining Super Rare cards planned for the set. Familiar sights like the Dragon’s Altar, the Tower of Guidance, and Garreg Mach Monastery can now be seen across the landscape, and today he formally reveals the first character to stand in the foreground…

The first of thirteen, Marth! He will also release as a Super Rare Plus edition, joined by Caeda in nostalgic attire.

Hope you enjoyed the show! The next episode will be airing June 20th, just before the release of Series 21. But you won’t need to wait that long to see more new cards, as the official Twitter will continue to share more each weekday which we’ll round up every week along with any other Cipher news.

Feel free to visit our forums to talk about Cipher if you have any questions or are looking to share your love for the card game!

Fire Emblem Cipher’s next booster expansion set, Tempest of Apocalyptic Flame, will be available from Japan starting June 25th!

This update is part of the grand finale for Cipher, as it was previously discussed that 2020 will be the final year of new product releases. We will be sticking to the very end to follow what’s new with the trading card game and hope you will join us too!
