Fates: Comic Anthologies Coming to Japan

Completely unrelated to the upcoming manga adaptation by Shin Kibayashi and Yusuke Kozaki, Ichijinsha is publishing a couple of Fire Emblem Fates comics starting from around September.

The first comic, Fire Emblem Fates Birthright Comic Anthology, actually came out on 31st August. Like its name suggests, it focuses on the Hoshidan characters who are central to the Birthright storyline.

According to the retailer listing, the 147-page anthology includes 14 short comics and several illustrations by over a dozen artists, such as Munku Mutsuki, who provides the cover illustration.

Next up is the Fire Emblem Fates 4koma Comic and Character Guide Book, which comes out on 25th September 2015. (For reference, 4koma comics are a style of typically gag comics restricted to 4 panels.)

Of particular interest to fans, this book promises full body illustrations (in full colour) for 70+ characters from the Birthright, Fates and Invisible Kingdom storylines.

Do note, however, that the character illustrations here are done by a mixture of (usually less famous) artists and they’re completely different to the official illustrations by Yusuke Kozaki.

(Another note: As they say, “never judge a book by its cover”. In this case, Natsuo Niimi, who you can applaud for the splendid cover illustration, does not provide any other illustrations in the book.)

Finally (at least for now), on 24th October 2015, the Fire Emblem Fates Conquest Comic Anthology arrives to complete the set.

At the moment, details for this item are scarce, but it’ll probably be similar to the Birthright anthology, except with the spotlight on the Nohrian characters from Conquest storyline.
