Heroes: Special Heroes (New Year’s of Fire and Ice), Voting Gauntlet and Sale Bundles

With 2018 about to come to a close, it was only a matter of time until the 2019 New Year banner was announced. Dataminers may have already given us spoilers as for what was to come, but for the rest of the summoners out there, that aren’t following along, come check out the New Year’s of Fire and Ice Special Heroes banner that was just announced.

This year, Nifl and Muspell join forces in this unlikely celebration, giving us a summonable foursome in Fjorm, Gunnthra, Hrid and Laevateinn. Outside of the quartet, Laegjarn: New Experiences (a Blue Lance Cavalier) will be available as a Tempest Trials+ reward unit, in upcoming Tempest Trials+: An ALliance of Princesses (starting January 1). In total, the banner brings us new debuff-centric units and new skills in Hone Atk 4 and Joint Hone Spd.

Of course, this banner comes with a Paralogue series, so prepare for the standard batch of Orbs and likely, associated quests for more Orbs.

Beyond dealing with the incoming units in general battles, there is a Voting Gauntlet to prepare for. This voting gauntlet pits the 2018 vs the 2019 New Years units, in a fairly assorted batch that happens to include the Tempest Trials reward Corrin [M]. Will this mean that the batch of alts from last year will be available in a banner? Given the history of VGs, the answer is likely yes, so good luck (in advance) in scoring a New Year’s Camilla, Takumi or Azura for the Voting Gauntlet.

Finally, it looks like two new one-time purchase sales will be coming, bestowing to buyers a combination of 140 orbs, 10,000 Hero Feathers and the differentiating components of the two sales, either Fjorm: New Traditions and 400 Aether Stones or Laevatein: Kumade Warrior and 200 Heroic Grails. Each is available for $74.99, and only available for the month of January, 2019.

$75 a pop? Couldn’t you just make it cheaper IS, maybe I’d actually consider it then, but that much for a character that I don’t even care much for is steep…hell, it’d still be steep if it were for someone I did want. But IS has gone full whale whoring at this point, so what else is new?

    • Bongo Beans

It should come with a special gold hat with ‘I have too much money’ written on it. Probably whale shaped.

Some of the people defending this saying “don’t buy it then if it’s so bad, it’s your choice” seem have taken notes from Andrew Wilson’s speech. Some people who waste their orbs resulting in nothing are going to buy those damn 75 dollar promos.
Anyways, I think they chose probably the worst orb package they could’ve coupled it with. You might think it make a lot of money because it’s based off of the most expensive orb package, but quite the contrary. The appeal of the orb promos was that you were getting a discount with some bonus stuff to boot for a cheap price. It’d have felt more reasonable for it to be 20$ or something. I understand that this is probably meant for whales, but it’s not as appealing as the monthly promos as they are for everyone.
I find it hilarious how one promo costs more than a AAA game. This game is a gacha, but from my experience of other gachas, a rather greedy and slow to improve one. All of the excuses of powercreep and cash grabs make the excusers sound like Feh is their only gacha they’ve ever played. The appeal of gacha games is collecting characters, not using busted characters in PvP. If only Feh could improve it’s story and how it presents summonable characters in story. Sinking ship at this point really if you look at revenue from last year and compare it to this one’s. From 300 mil to what’s predicted to be 200 mil. That’s a loss of a 100 mil.
I just saw someone trying to defend decisions related to PvP and… FGO and GBF make a lot more money without PvP. And most of their characters are original meaning that they don’t rely on nostalgia magets all that much when it comes to new characters.

That’s not entirely true about FGO- they do rely on sexualizing characters from 2004 (even when is strongly against their background), so while not as old as FE by any means, they do rely in a mix of nostalgia, fan exploitation and striping waifus for cash. Now, this is their business model and it works great- the sad thing is that FEH is in a limbo while trying to find a business model- they can’t go for the fanservice all the way because nintendo wouldn’t allow it, plus the prudish half of the fanbase would rage about it. They can’t go for a solid gaming experience because they seem to NEED to add mini money walls at every mode. It’s a shame really, because FEH gameplay is solid and you need to actually think and not just grind, unlike most gachas (at least for the abyssal and such) but I feel like it is already in it’s decline. They really should pay more attention to other gachas to see how they keep the interest from their playerbase. Heck that way maybe we could get a christmas present next year.

They don’t rely on nostalgia all that much is what I mean. Seasonals, sure. But most new characters are new with decent writing to introduce them to players. Some might be reskins, but of characters introduced in FGO. Saberface is a thing, but that seems to be an inside joke about the artist who designed her. FZ and FA are nostalgia cash grabs, but from what I remember those are from two events over the game’s entire lifespan.

People make fun of the fanservice aspects in seasonals that are ridiculous like Winter Tharja. No shame if you like her, but it’s funny how she’s an armored unit despite wearing a bikini.. Bikinis are rather fine from what I’ve seen if you make it so that you can’t make fun of it (it’s bikini armor, I swear). If you want to talk about reddit then that has something more to do with user moderation.

Problem with Feh is that Nintendo partnered with the wrong company. Other Nintendo mobile games flopped. And DeNA has a bad track record.

Dude, I didn’t recognize Gunnthra without her hat on so I was confused to who she was before she appeared on the video and started talking. I might go for all of these characters even though my main flyer team is somewhat solid, same with my horse team but it never hurts to experiment and try out different characters to see if they’ll work better.

Getting cute Fjorm and Laevateinn. Promos can go burn in a ditch. Luckily I have orbs gathered from two months
