Fire Emblem Engage: Framme Tidbits via Twitter

Nevermind, I give up predicting the Japanese Fire Emblem Engage Twitter posts!

Today, we have a few details about Framme, Cramme’s younger sister who appeared in the reveal trailer.

First, her profile:

Framme (Sayaka Senbongi) is a 33rd generation Dragon Guardian, protecting the Divine Dragon at the Land of Lythos. She’s Cramme’s younger twin sister and more determined and lively compared to her brother.

As expected, she’s also a 33rd generation Dragon Guardian, like Cramme. It makes me wonder if there could be other Dragon Guardians besides Vander and the twins. Since Cramme was described as the gentle twin, it doesn’t surprise me that Framme is the more lively one.

Monk is an interesting class; in Blazing Blade and The Sacred Stones, it was a Light magic wielding class. Here, it seems to be a Brawling and Staff class, as we’ll see later.

Next is a video showcasing Framme in battle. On the surface, it’s not super interesting because we already saw Framme fighting in the reveal trailer. But there are a few things of note.

Beforehand, some of the more boring stuff. This map is the same one from the Cramme spotlight. It’s also the same map that Framme was fighting in the reveal trailer. Looking at the map, the allies are unchanged although Alfred and Céline have Engaged with their Emblems.

Unlike Alear, Vander and Cramme, Framme’s skill doesn’t seem to trigger for adjacent units. It also does not seem to trigger during battle.

Her Monk class belongs to the Qigong category, unlike Mystical for Cramme’s Mage or Céline’s Noble classes. Qigong is a form of martial art, with roots in China and other parts of Asia, which focuses “life energy” (Qi) into movement, posture, etc.

As the player highlights Cramme, her attack/effect range alternates between red and green, indicating she can attack and heal. Indeed, she’s equipped with scrolls (Brawling), a staff and Vulnerary. The scroll is a Training Body-Art.

As Framme goes up to the enemy, her actions include Attack, Chain Guard, Inventory and Wait. Chain Guard is new and I’m unsure what it could do. Perhaps it’s related to Framme’s skill?

One thing that comes to mind, maybe it’s a new version of Dual Guard, which in the past occasionally negated incoming hits and also negated two enemies attacking together in FE Fates. This is a total guess, but I’m wondering if Chain Guard has the latter effect.

In the Japanese trailer, Chloé’s foe has two sets of attack numbers, which could be related to what a Chain Guard would protect from. Like a Chain Attack?

This time, since Framme has multiple weapons, the player can choose which weapon to attack with. Her Training Body-Art is a D rank Brawling weapon. It mentions that consecutive attacks are disabled, implying that most Brawling weapons retain the consecutive attack effect from Three Houses. Indeed, her Iron Body-Art triggered a consecutive attack.

Below is a Heal staff, her Iron Body-Art from the reveal trailer and a good ol’ Vulnerary. The stats shown are equipped stats. Besides that, the Pillar gives 30 Avoid. So similar to the Forest giving 30 Avoid during the Alear showcase.

Framme’s foe is a naughty Elusian soldier, an archer. Curiously, Brawling has a weapon triangle advantage against Bows. In Three Hopes (since Three Houses lacked a weapon triangle), it was the other way around: Brawling was weak versus Bows.

Anyway, it seems a colourless weapon triangle exists in FE Engage. If Brawling beats Bows, it suggests Bows beat Magic, which beats Brawling. In FE Fates, as well as Three Hopes, Magic beat Bows (the other way around). Hmm, it’s very odd they’ve seemingly reversed the triangle…

We also see the Break mechanic at play, but the developers have yet to enlighten us. There are some clues though.

One, with the exception of Alear in potentially the very first map (a tutorial?), a Break has been observed when the character has a weapon triangle advantage.

Two, after triggering a Break, the foe drops their weapon. It’s possible that Break disarms an opponent, although it could be simply a visual flair. Unfortunately, whenever a Break is triggered, the footage either cuts away before we find out or the enemy cannot counterattack in the first place. Maybe they’re doing this on purpose…

Lastly, we’ll leave you with Framme’s self-introduction. This probably follows on from Cramme’s self-introduction, as she mentions being a 33rd generation Dragon Guardian just like Cramme.
