Fire Emblem Engage: Emblem Micaiah Analysis

We hope you enjoyed the New Year holiday! At last, it seems the official Fire Emblem JP Twitter has resumed its scheduled posts.

The Fire Emblem Engage content for today includes Emblem Micaiah’s profile and overview, among other things.

Micaiah’s profile:

Micaiah (VA: Natsuko Kuwatani), known as the Emblem of Dawn, has mysterious powers, such as healing and foreseeing the future.

A bond conversation with Vander:

Now, onto the overview itself:

Micaiah has high Magic and healing capabilities, so she’s great at healing allies. She’s a support and healing-focused Emblem who can allow any ally to wield staves.

Yunaka is here on the Sacaen throwback map, as a Level 10 Thief. Her inventory includes Cinquedea (a new dagger), Physic, Peshkatz, Obstruct and Silver Dagger.

Micaiah’s Sync skill Staff User lets the user wield staves in any class. Thief isn’t normally a class that can use staves.

We’ve seen this phenomenon a few times–in the debut trailer with Clanne and also Yunaka again in a Nintendo UK pic. This may also explain why Céline has A staves in her Noble class.

Hooray, Yunaka heals Hortensia who has Elfire+1, engraved with Marth’s Emblem.

Oh, we haven’t seen this map in a long time–only at the start of Celica’s overview. Now we even get to see the mini-map.

The layout vaguely reminds me of the Endgame map from Path of Radiance. It’s not the same though (and we already know Ike’s throwback map, which is based on Chapter 8).

Bunet is a Level 19 Axe Knight here, likely reclassed down since he as an advanced class’s skill (likely Great Knight’s). His inventory includes a Steel Axe, Steel Blade, Tomahawk, Physic and Silver Axe. He can’t equip the Steel Blade, but he could as a Great Knight.

With his high Cavalry movement, Bunet heads Goldmary who’s synced with Corrin. The aesthetics of the background make me think this is somewhere in Lythos, maybe in the last half of the game.

Zelkov Engages with Micaiah for the next bit.

He’s a Level 20 Mage with Micaiah’s Shine, Elthunder+1, Physic, Elsurge, Obstruct and Elfire. The map is the night-time village ruins from Chapter 6.

Micaiah’s Engage weapon Shine is a light magic attack that illuminates the surroundings afterwards.

It increases the field of vision by 5 squares at the spot where the enemy was, with the field decreasing by 1 each turn.

Seadall is a Level 24 Dancer with a Burst Body Art, Micaiah’s Shine, Silver Body Art, Initiate Art and Physic. He’s supposedly Engaged with Micaiah (from the map model and sprite), but oddly his portrait has him in his Dancer garb.

The map is the interior with checkerboard floors.

Because the camera is zoomed out, it’s a bit hard to tell who everyone is, but I think they’re Fogado (bow cavalry), Alear (sword, with Marth), Goldmary (sword, with Corrin), Framme (arts/dual staff), maybe Citrinne (tome/staff, with Celica), Ivy (tome/staff wyvern), Merrin (dagger wolf), Yunaka (dagger) and Chloé (lance pegasus).

Micaiah’s Engage skill Amplify boosts the range of a staff, as well as its range of effect. The range increases by 5 and the range of the effect increases by 1 (eg. if a staff affects 1 square normally, it will affect the 4 adjacent squares too).

Now Seadall is wearing the proper outfit. He’s healing Fogado, who’s somehow moved really far away. Nobody else seems to have moved, so not sure what happened there. Anyway, I think Fogado’s in his promoted Cupido class.

He’s a look at their outfits in battle.

Augment also works with non-healing staves too. Merrin is a Level 20 Wolf Knight with a Cinquedea.

The map is the desert shoals one.

Again, the view is zoomed out, so it’s a bit hard to identify the characters: Rosado (axe wyvern), maybe Alcryst (bow, with Lyn), Goldmary (sword, with Corrin), probably Pandreo (tome/staff, with Byleth), Panette (axe, poisoned and low HP), perhaps Jade (axe, with Sigurd, greyed out) and Hortensia (tome/staff pegasus).

Merrin casts Obstruct to create ice pillars to block enemies. These ice pillars can be broken, but it’ll take time to break them, especially with so many pillars!

Framme is using Great Sacrifice here.

This Engage attack fully restores the HP of all allies, in exchange for the user’s own HP. After using it, the user will be left with 1 HP.

The map is the Elusian church.

Allies include Etie (bow, low HP), Alfred (lance cavalry), maybe Alear (sword, Engaged with Marth), Hortensia (tome/staff pegasus), Amber (lance cavalry, low HP), Fogado (bow cavalry), Céline (sword, low HP), Yunaka (dagger) and I think Citrinne (tome/staff). Could be Clanne, but his colour scheme is different.

Framme is a Level 20 Monk here, with an Initiate Art.

If Great Sacrifice is used in a Dragon class, the user will be left with 30% HP instead.

To showcase this, Alear is a Level 20 Divine Dragon with a Silver Blade.

Allies include Framme (arts/dual staff, with Marth), probably Pandreo (tome/staff, with Byleth), Lapis (sword cavalry), Hortensia (tome/staff pegasus), Rosado (axe wyvern), Jade (axe, with Sigurd), Merrin (dagger wolf) and Goldmary (sword, with Corrin).

Some random shots now. Jade is healing Goldmary, who’s Engaged with Corrin, with Physic. Likely to show off Augment again, plus Staff User, since she’s in an Armor class. The map is the Sacaen throwback.

Next, Boucheron is casting Silence on an enemy tome cavalry unit with Elthunder. Again, another demonstration of Augment and Staff User, since Boucheron’s in a Backup class and, far as we know, none of those wield staves. The map is the night-time Solmic camp.

To finish off, Fogado shows off Great Sacrifice again.

The map is Firene ablaze, from Chapter 17.

The allies are all ones that already showed up in this overview: Yunaka (dagger), Goldmary (sword, with Corrin), I think Citrinne (tome/staff, with Celica), Framme (arts/dual staff), maybe Alfred (lance cavalry, obscured), Amber (lance cavalry), Alear (sword, with Marth), Jade (axe, with Sigurd), Etie (bow), Merrin (dagger wolf), Chloé (lance flier) and Ivy (tome/staff wyvern).

Besides the Micaiah content, there’s some info about Armor classes:

Units in an Armor class cannot be broken when attacked by weapons they have a weapon disadvantage against. Also, they have a lot of HP and high Defence, so they’re great at shielding others on the front-lines. However, they are weak against magic attacks, so caution is required.

This is pretty substantial and definitely makes Armor classes good for defensive purposes, since they can’t be made weaponless. Essentially, they’re walking Forts. The map is the first Firene one, from Chapter 4.

Finally, some info on Fog of War:

During maps with Fog of War, only a portion of the map is visible–the areas around your allies, as well as the light from bonfires and torches. Even if enemies are lurking around the corner, their whereabouts are unclear, so be sure to proceed carefully.

This is the night-time village ruins from Chapter 6 again. We’ve got Céline (sword, with Celica), Vander (axe cavalry), Alfred (lance cavalry, with Sigurd), Louis (lance), Framme (art/staff), Clanne (tome), Boucheron (axe), Chloé (lance pegasus) and Etie (bow).

Alfred’s a Level 7 Noble here, with an Iron Lance. He approaches a bonfire to set it alight, increasing the field of vision.
