Another week, another Famitsu leak–and, better, there’s bound to be more to come, as Famitsu announces weekly coverage of Fire Emblem if, presumably until its release.
The next issue (which releases on 21st May) focuses on the new weapons properties, in the wake of the abolishing of weapon durability, plus new characters and classes. If Hachima is to be believed, the details are as follows…
To begin with–and probably the biggest surprise: apparently the weapon triangle has been revised. Part of this could already be observed (in multiple screenshots, swords were strong against bows), but here’s the rest.
Sword and Magic > Axe and Bow > Lance and Hidden Weapon > Sword and Magic
“Hidden Weapon” (for lack of a better term) refers to concealed weapons, like knives and shurikens. These weapons are wielded by Ninjas, Maids and… Butlers. They are physically weak, but can reduce enemy stats.
Some more examples of how weapons have been reworked:
- Bronze Sword: Cannot critical, but boosts Critical Evade by 10
- Iron Sword: Nothing special
- Steel Sword: Avoid -5, double attack threshold -3
- Silver Sword: Critical Evade -5; after using, Strength and Skill -2 until next turn
- Brave Sword: Allows 2 consecutive attacks, Defence and Resistance -4
Although weapons no longer have durability, healing staves still have limited number of uses (and likely healing items too).
New characters and classes:
- Felicia: Maid
- Joker: Butler
- Gunter: Great Knight
- Suzukaze: Ninja
- Saizou: Ninja
- Kagerou: Ninja
Correction: Gunter is likely a Great Knight rather than the hilariously-named “Great Butler”. We’ll find out soon anyway…
Felicia, Joker, Gunter and Suzukaze are allies during both routes, while Saizou and Kagerou are Hoshidan allies only.
In a separate leak (from Famitsu or elsewhere), two more characters were revealed: Cyrus the Nohrian Cavalier and Oboro the Hoshidan Lancer.
Of note, Oboro’s Iron Naginata has the property of Defence and Resistance +1, while Cyrus’s Iron Lance seems to have no apparent effects. Weapons can now grant Avoid as well.
