Heroes: Bound Hero Battle: Seliph & Julia + Scattered Fangs Preview Trailer!

A new special battle event is now available in Fire Emblem Heroes! Prepare a strong team and head to Special Maps to tackle Bound Hero Battle: Seliph & Julia. The BHB also has an associated banner containing 5★ focus units for Seliph, Julia, and Deirdre.

As usual, you can complete the BHB in three difficulties to earn up to 9 Orbs! Be careful, however, as all of your units need to survive the map. Bound Hero Battle: Seliph & Julia and its associated banner will be available for about a week, ending on on 12 June.

Additionally, Heroes has shared a preview trailer for the next new banner, Scattered Fangs! It contains three new units from Blazing Sword, including two new characters, Karla and Legault. The third character is an alt for Nino, now a flying green mage! Check out the trailer here. You can also check further down for a text breakdown of their skills.

The new banner comes out this Friday, 8 June. A new story chapter, “The King’s Demise” will also be arriving that day alongside the banner. Furthermore, according to the Notification Screen, a new Grand Hero Battle featuring Linus will begin on 12 June.

Most interesting, a shot of the new story chapter also shows another new FE7 character, Canas. Perhaps we’ll be getting him soon via another method? We’re nearing the end of the current Event Calendar, so we don’t quite know what events will be coming next that could reward a new unit. It could be another TT, or even another GC unit reward like Kaze.

From left to right: Ursula, Legault, Surtr, Canas, Flying Nino

Karla: Sword Vassal:
  • Vassal’s Blade (Sword, Mt 16): Accelerates Special trigger (cooldown count-1). If unit’s Spd > foe’s Spd, boosts damage dealt by 70% of difference between stats. (Maximum bonus of +7 damage. Combos with Phantom Spd.)
  • Draconic Aura (Special): Boosts Atk by 30%.
  • Wrath 3 (B slot): At start of turn, if unit’s HP ≤ 75% and unit’s attack triggers Special, grants Special cooldown count-1. Deals +10 damage when Special triggers.
  • Even Spd Wave 3 (C slot): At start of even-numbered turns, grants Spd+6 to unit and adjacent allies for 1 turn. (Bonus granted to unit even if no allies are adjacent.)
Legault: The Hurricane:
  • The Cleaner+ (Dagger, Mt 12): Adds total bonuses on foe to damage dealt during combat. After combat, if unit attacked, inflicts Def/Res-7 on target and foes within 2 spaces of target through their next actions.
  • Glimmer (Special): Boosts damage dealt by 50%.
  • Swift Strike 2 (A slot): If unit initiates combat, grants Spd/Res+4 during combat.
  • Atk Tactic 3 (C slot): At start of turn, grants Atk+6 to allies within 2 spaces for 1 turn. Granted only if number of that ally’s movement type on current team ≤ 2.
Nino: Pale Flower:
  • Giga Excalibur (Green Tome, Mt 14): Grants Spd+3. If unit’s Spd > foe’s Spd, boosts damage dealt by 70% of difference between stats. (Maximum bonus of +7 damage. Combos with Phantom Spd.)
  • Moonbow (Special): Treats foe’s Def/Res as if reduced by 30% during combat.
  • Swift Sparrow (A slot): If unit initiates combat, grants Atk/Spd+4 during combat.

wow! thanks, unintelligent systems, for giving us the nino alt that nobody asked for!

    • Bongo Beans

      Did their best!

    • Diovani Estivalet

Why the surprised? IS gave us Reinhardt and Olwen in the same banner in April… two unit we didn’t ask as alts.

      • Jesus Ojeda

At least this Nino had the decency to pick some extra armor to avoid looking the exact frikin’ same, unlike Reinhardt and Olwen.

        • Diovani Estivalet

Yeah… Reinhardt and Olwen just got a new horse and “Hey! I am a new unit now!”

    • Vaximillian

      Didn’t expect that, didya?

Oh, I apologise. I mean, didn’t know that, didya?

  • Suicunesol

Not happy about Nino, but Canas, Karla, and Legault are a win.

I would have introduced Flying Blue Archer Fiora instead.

  • Kurono

They sure love alts doesn’t it? Nino was totally unecessary.
Happy for Canas though, i don’t have a good Red character on my team, so he will probably be a permanent on my team if he doesn’t suck.

    • MetalGear Lamia

Well its a mobile gacha game like any other alts are nothing new.

      • compared to say mirishita who has 52 characters in total, where variations of characters makes sense, random alts are completely unjustified when you look at the amount of units FE has

        • Diovani Estivalet

Yeah… I accept seasonal heroes or even the legendaries… but I am not a fan of alt versions in normal banners.

        • Semi Colon Parenthesis

Personally, I’m fine with alts. However, they’re mostly unnecessary/overused in FEH. Eirikia, for example, is a nice “what if” and shows how creative they can be, but it’s the kind of alt I would expect after all/most of the playable cast/major villains were in the game.

Everyone (including myself) thought the 4 Heroes Special Maps was referring to the CYL2 heroes, but turns out it’s most likely referring to the 4 Fang, now that we’re getting Linus the set is complete.

Also, my instinct is to say that Legault is gonna become the 4* demote, but Ares (and M!Morgan) certainly broke from that pattern with the last banner so I really don’t know at this point…though Nino is basically guaranteed to stay 5* with her being the 5 skill base kit unit of the banner.

    • Diovani Estivalet

I believe Legault can be the one demoted from this banner. Both Wrath and Even Spd Wave are really good skills, and have one of them at 4* can be a problem. Legault has Swift Strike and Atk Tactic, but the A-skill is not that amazing. It’s good against mages only. I hope for 4* Atk Tactic. And The Cleaner+ dagger is not that amazing either. If the enemy don’t have buffs, it’s basically a 12 Mt silver dagger. Although, the dagger is good against cavalry, armored, flying and tactic teams, and units with blade tomes, but I would prefer having a archer or a healer as colorless unit in my team.
I agree with you about Nino staying as 5* exclusive.

  • 3-13 Archer

Oh, my… That background music, Karla, Legault, Linus and Canas (Luna pls)… I just can take so much hype, FE7 is my favourite one after FE9/10. But they could have put Sonia instead of another Nino.
And the other banner is BS. I was actually saving orbs for Julia or Deirdre, but I guess IS had other plans.

    • Vaximillian

Canas is seen with the Rauðrowl tome, finally making it available as a non-five-star-locked source.

      • 3-13 Archer

Not too good, since he will be limited. I almost want they come out with another “Ayra”, but being avaible at 4* after the banner.
Is Katarina that great? They should start excluding some units from the 5* pool, starting with Leo, Mist and Saber.

        • Vaximillian

Katarina is basically Tharja, but with actual Res. The only thing that kept her locked was Swift Sparrow.

  • Diovani Estivalet

That’s a interesting banner. Also, a new owl tome user is always welcomed, and free (I hope)! I hope we can damage Surtr this time.

    • MetalGear Lamia

      Agree with everything! 🙂

    • MetalGear Lamia

      Edit: we did it!!!!!

  • Kl1

Good thing they’re dropping Canas close to summer. That way there’s absolutely no chance he’ll die trying to stop a snowstorm.

    • nate

canas was killed by continuity errors

      • Kl1

A veritable blizzard of continuity errors as it were.

  • 100%B-Type

    Nino~ All on green!

  • Fallen Crow

I love fire emblem, but this game isn’t something I want to support anymore. Yes, I realize that there are tons of gacha games out there and yes, I realize that the gacha component is completely optional, however I don’t think that makes it right. Taking advantage of addiction is NEVER right.

Furthermore, the creation of so many alts also makes me wonder if the creators even care about other characters anymore. Also the lack of interesting content is… well you know. I won’t go into further detail, (because tons of people have listed problems wrong with the game already) I just wanted to write this so I can hold myself accountable for quitting.

    Good luck everyone!

    • I believe that their silent justification is that this approach will dramatically increase the overall lifespan of the game, as they’ll have more units to introduce over a longer period of time. It’s clever through the idea of squeezing as much money out of it as possible, but also extremely bullshit.

I’ll still keep playing it even though I find it to be an overall bad game, as I can use characters I wouldn’t be able to otherwise due to being locked or outright bad. I learned to appreciate it a bit more once I relaxed my opinion of wanting it to be an actual FE experience. But I can definitely understand your reasoning of wanting to stop.

      • Fallen Crow

Thanks for the kind response. I agree with your first paragraph. I also agree it is appetizing to look at the game in a more relaxed sense (especially when you can use your favorite characters for free basically) however I feel that the gacha element is really what really holds heroes back from being an amazing game.

Using what you are given is what I associate fire emblem with, and thats what makes the experience fun to me in the main games and as as (mostly) f2p player in heroes. As f2p you slowly build your units up and see your progression over the months. You feel accomplished really. Summoning throws that out the window, allowing people to throw their money away, to get that feeling of accomplishment faster.

I guess I would much rather pay 4.99 a month for an FE game, then see a small amount of people pay thousands of dollars to keep it going because they are addicted to the gambling aspect of it.

  • Kneekicker

The salt sure is real with Nino; there’s simply no pleasing some people. Seriously, what’s the problem with sneaking in just a single alt alongside 4 new units?

    • Suicunesol

Because the original Nino is just fine. Another Nino wasn’t necessary, and they’re just capitalizing on her popularity. It means a slot that could have belonged to another Blazing Sword character.

At least she’s wearing a slightly different outfit though.

      • Kneekicker

Being unnecessary is not synonymous with being unwanted; as one of the most popular Blazing Sword units who had yet to receive an alt more than a year after her initial release, Nino was an excellent pick to be an alt for the banner.

Sustainability is a pivotal factor in the continued success of gacha games, and FEH only has slightly less than 500 units across the whole franchise to introduce before the pool runs dry. Since the majority of FEH’s characters hail from other games in the franchise rather than original creations for FEH itself, IS needs to pad out the releases of new individual characters to maintain the fanbase.

This is neither capitalistic greed nor laziness; all surviving gacha games in the current day adhere to this practice for continued existence. If you don’t like it, view it as an act of compromise rather than an act of malice, because FEH’s lifespan would be shortened a great deal without these alts.

  • O.H. X-1990

So, I can finally kill Surtr for good! But wait, that’s too soon! I didn’t get to fight Laevatein, Laegjarn, Helbindi’s sister (because I know Helbindi is dead already), and Loki one last time before Surtr! Also, I don’t see Veronica with Surtr, maybe she’s imprisoned before her execution. Not to mention there is still no Hrid, and it still doesn’t make sense that Ylgr is with the Order of Heroes, yet she’s not playable! What’s going on here?!

Now, about this new Banner… Do I even want to bother?

  • Broba Fett

I’m so happy to finally see Legault in the game. I, however, think this game has a serious alt problem. Instead of making alts that are canonical and fun to pull for they simply take a unit and throw them on a pegasus or kenji and its painfully boring. The CYL1 alts were fun as hell because they were at least somewhat canonical (Lyn uses the Sacaean bow Mulagir, Roy is using Durandal, Ike is dressed as his father and uses Urvan, and Lucina is in her promotion outfit). Here are some fun alt ideas:

    Old man Hector from FE6
    Fomortis possessed Lyon
    Hero promoted Ike with Ettard
    Arch sage Soren
Swordmaster Joshua with the wind sword
Lyn with Mani Katti (and not mulagir for the third time)
Hector dressed as Durban while using Wolf Beil
    Eliwood non mounted with Rapier
    Raven using swords
Ogma not looking like he was drawn by a 2 year old
Robin in the grandmaster outfit with a sword

The list goes on yet we still get these half baked alts that make no sense (Eirika stealing Knolls tome for example)
