Making of Shadow Dragon (NES)

The Making of Fire Emblem released in December, while far from perfect, was a treat for hardcore Fire Emblem fans, featuring many previously unknown development materials and secrets.

Of note, the 351-page book finally solved the mystery of Fire Emblem 64 and even revealed a never-seen-before Fire Emblem prototype for the Wii.

However that’s just the tip of the iceberg; in the coming weeks, I’ll be providing an in-depth look at many other exciting sections from the book in collaboration with Kirokan from Kantopia.

To get things rolling, it makes the most sense to begin with the game that started it all: the Famicom/NES version of Shadow Dragon (and the Blade of Light).

Fire Emblem 2015 Retrospective

For most of us, 2016 is just around the corner–the important year that brings us the international releases of Fire Emblem Fates and Genei Ibun Roku #FE.

While we wait, let’s take a look back at the events of this year.

Needless to say, 2015 was a bumper-packed year for Fire Emblem, as it coincided with the series’s 25th grand anniversary.

In fact, here at Serenes Forest, we’ve posted a whopping 146 front page articles this year alone. So many that I eventually had to recruit an additional news editor to even keep up!

Upcoming Fire Emblem Soundtrack/DVD Releases

Today is the first of three days of Comiket 89, a massive Japanese anime and gaming exhibition that occurs twice every year in Japan.

Earlier this year, during Comiket Special 6, Fire Emblem made its first Comiket appearance to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the series.

Now, due to popular demand, the Fire Emblem booth is back again, with another plethora of highly sought-after and exclusive merchandise

While Japanese fans and miracle workers frantically queue up to bag the loot, for those unable to attend Comiket (or find friends to go), there are some items you can order from the comfort of your own home.

Making of Fire Emblem: The Illusive Wii Fire Emblem

Earlier in December, we finally learned the true nature of the cancelled Fire Emblem 64, courtesy of the Making of Fire Emblem.

However, as it turns out, there was another Fire Emblem game that never left development–one that we didn’t know existed up until now.

After Radiant Dawn, Intelligent Systems began prototyping another Fire Emblem game for the Nintendo Wii, simply referred to as the “Illusive Wii Title”.

What made this game stand out was that it was not a straightforward strategy RPG like previous Fire Emblems, but instead something closer to a traditional RPG and RTS (Real-time Strategy) game.
