Fire Emblem if: Official Site Renewal

It took long enough, but on 31st May, following the oddly-timed Nintendo Direct, Nintendo revamped the official site, adding in a lot of details revealed in prior issues of Famitsu, plus a couple of things we didn’t know.

To start with, the front page has been compacted, with all the key details from the teaser site moved to the “About” page. Also, a piece of soothing background music plays while you’re navigating the site.

For your convenience, if you like the music, you can download it here! (You need to right click and press “Save as…”)

As you may have guessed, the “About” section explains the basics of Fire Emblem if, from the choice you make that divides the storyline in two and how it physically works, as two separate versions in Japan.

Fire Emblem if: My Castle Analysis and Fan-Translated Trailer

Yesterday, Nintendo of Japan released a dedicated trailer for the “My Castle” feature introduced in the Nintendo Direct broadcast earlier on the same day.

Because I was away at the time (and thoroughly exhausted), I was unable to cover the finer details of the trailer, but today’s a new day and there are sure to be many fans still confused by the Japan-only trailer.

So without further ado, here’s my analysis of the My Castle trailer.

Because the trailer is literally jam-packed with information, I’ve had to spread the analysis over two pages, so be sure to click the link at the bottom to move onto the next page (or click here)!

Just before I completed my analysis, our resident Japanese expert shadowofchaos uploaded an English-subtitled version of the trailer here.

Be sure to give it a good look, as the English commentary reveals a lot more than what the footage shows, and don’t forget to share it if you like it (with credit of course)!

Next, I’ll be analysing the game’s updated official site for details, as well as other things I may have missed. Until next time!

Fire Emblem if Nintendo Direct 31st May: My Castle and Amiibos

Nintendo of Japan certainly know how to pick a strange day for a new Nintendo Direct: on a Sunday, a day before June and just weeks away from E3 (and with me conveniently away at the Pokemon VGC UK Nationals, in case you’re wondering why this news post is so late).

Today’s Japan-only Direct focused on upcoming Summer 3DS and Wii U games and, Fire Emblem if, being a Summer title (it comes out on 25th June in case you didn’t know or forgot) was naturally featured.

To begin with, the Fire Emblem if portion of the Direct introduced a brand new key feature known as My Castle. This is the player’s base of operations; a castle town that serves as a hub for interacting with characters and accessing facilities, similar to the world map in Awakening.

The first thing you may notice is that you–the Avatar–can freely walk around on the map, like in a traditional RPG (or inside the villages of Fire Emblem Gaiden).

Fire Emblem if Famitsu 28th May: New Characters, Classes and Skills

Unfortunately, there wasn’t a Famitsu Fire Emblem if leak yesterday; only a tiny preview image and a picture of Elfie’s portrait to keep us occupied.

To make up for it, however, somebody has generously leaked pretty much all of the relevant pages, just hours before the digital issue releases.

So without further ado, let’s dig into the contents…

Left: Trueblade. Right: Weapon Master.

Left: Trueblade. Right: Weapon Master.

To start with, Famitsu introduces the game’s Class Change mechanics, which are similar to in Awakening. Characters in a basic (unpromoted) class can use a Master Seal when they’re Level 10 or higher to promote into one of two advanced (promoted) classes.

The example given is Hinata, a sword-wielding Samurai (a renamed Myrmidon), promoting into the Trueblade (a renamed Swordmaster, which has superior speed and adept at landing multiple hits) or Weapon Master (a new foot-based class that wields Swords, Lances and Axes).
