Three Houses: Interview with Nintendo Dream (Part 1) via Nintendo Everything

Back in March, the May 2020 edition of Nintendo Dream featured a big interview with the Three Houses development team, revealing various tidbits, such as Claude’s true name.

At the time, we shared parts of the interview, but the full interview is much, much bigger–so much so that it’s taken weeks to completely translate.

Thanks to Nintendo Everything and translator Nico Thaxton, you can read the first half of the interview on their website. (The second half will be released tomorrow.)

Here are a few highlights to pique your interest. Please be aware that the full interview includes spoilers for the various routes and DLC.

Three Houses: Nintendo Dream Interview Reveals the Very First Route, Claude’s Real Name & More!

A few days ago, the May 2020 issue of Nintendo Dream was released; it featured an interview with the development staff of Three Houses, which delved into the secrets of Fodlan’s birth, as well as spoilers relating to the key characters.

The interview itself is in Japanese, but thanks to fans, the important parts have been translated! Before continuing, please be aware that there are big spoilers for pretty much every route. Especially for the Edelgard and Claude routes.

Topics include the very first route that was written for the game (any guesses which one?), plus discussions about Edelgard, Rhea and Claude (which is where we learn his real name…).

By the way, for any Dimitri fans who are wondering, they do talk about him, but there doesn’t seem to be much new (which could be a good thing, as it means all the important stuff is already in the game).

Fire Emblem Warriors: Final Interview with Nintendo Dream

We have ourselves yet another Nintendo Dream article to decode!

In this “final interview” from the June issue of Nintendo Dream released on April 21st 2018, we have a behind the scenes look following the release of the third and final DLC pack.

Translation by VincentASM. Special thanks to Christian Ponte/@TheTanooki for providing the images!

Warning: There are spoilers for the endgame!

Left: Hiroya Usuda — Team NINJA brand senior leader. Director for Hyrule Warriors 3DS and Fire Emblem Warriors.
Right: Yosuke Hayshi — Koei Tecmo’s Director and Senior Managing Executive Officer, Team NINJA brand leader. Involved with Hyrule Warriors 3DS and Fire Emblem Warriors.

Nintendo Dream: What are your thoughts now that you’ve finished development of the DLC?

Usuda: “It’s over; that was long” is what I’m honestly thinking. At the very beginning, we were working with the 3DS version of Hyrule Warriors as a base, and we had Link running around in this very early, rough version. Roughly half a year has passed since the game’s launch and we’ve created many DLC characters for everyone to use. We received opinions via Twitter and enjoyed reading fans’ reactions after the release. In addition, we progressed onto the DLC, where we enjoyed communicating with fans, while thinking of what to do next.

Hayashi: I’m very grateful for all the fans who praised the game and affirmed our expectations. Also, now that the DLC is over, I feel like there’s finally a great variety of weapons.

Echoes: Nintendo Dream Interview from May 2017

Back in May, Nintendo Dream conducted a post-launch interview with the developers of Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia. Thanks to Kirokan, this interview has now been translated into English.

In the interview, the developers reflect on the player feedback received after launch and discuss how certain design choices were made, such as the inclusion of new characters and Alm becoming left-handed.

We were incredibly anxious due to development limitations, as well as wondering whether the newer fans of the series would be accepting of this game. So after seeing the great response the game got, well, it was a relief!

They even briefly mention Fire Emblem Switch and touch on some Fire Emblem Heroes-related trivia.

With the experience and “know-how” gained from Awakening and Fates, we attempted to make [the people] in both this game and the next one on Switch closer to realistic proportions and movements.

Whereas really, the FEH side just wanted another archer unit [with Faye].
