Fire Emblem 2019 Retrospective

Soon, we’ll be saying “goodbye” to 2019 (or depending on your time zone, it might already be gone). In any case, let’s use this opportunity to reflect on how this year treated the Fire Emblem series!

Disclaimer: This isn’t meant to be an objective review of the year, but the author’s personal take on things.

Three Houses

Obviously, the biggest event this year was the worldwide release of Three Houses, the latest installment in our beloved franchise. This game was important for numerous reasons; it was the first mainline game released on the Nintendo Switch and the first console entry in nearly a decade(!).

Leading up to the game’s release, signs were looking promising, but there was always a chance it might mess up the landing… Thankfully, when the game arrived, it received nearly universal praise and, at the time of writing, it’s currently the series’s second best-selling title (number one is Fates, although that one had 3 separate versions).

Recently, the game also won 2 prizes at The Game Awards: “Best Strategy Game” and “Player’s Voice”. The first one probably was expected, but the second award was a very welcome surprise! Especially because it was voted by the public. Against all odds, fans of Three Houses gathered together, beating the other candidates–including Super Smash Bros. Ultimate–by double the votes! Well done, everyone!

Heroes: Tempest Trials+ “Mid-fest Digest” Beginning Soon

We have official details for first Tempest Trials+ event of 2020. Mid-fest Digest will begin after the daily rollover on 3rd January 2020 (UTC) and run until the next rollover on 14th January 2020.

This time, Summoners can look forward to obtaining an exclusive 4/5-star Special Hero, Eir: Renewed Life (Red Dagger Flier). In addition, the following Sacred Seals are up for grabs: Swift Sparrow 1, Spd Feint 1 and HP/Def 1.

If you want to prepare, here are the Bonus Heroes that will boost your score. They include the four new Special Heroes arriving on 1st January: New Year’s Alfonse (Duo), Anna, Lethe and Selkie. Plus Eir from the Tempest Trials, Ranulf and the normal versions of Lethe and Selkie.

Don’t have any of those Heroes? No problem, you can grind until you get Eir (which shouldn’t take long, for the 4-star version at least). But if you’re feeling lucky, there’s currently a summoning banner featuring normal Lethe, Selkie and Ranulf.

Heroes: Weekly Revival 10 + Return of Leif & Nanna Bound Hero Battle

It’s the final weekend before the New Year! In case you missed it, there are two things to pay attention to in Fire Emblem Heroes.

Firstly, the Weekly Revival 10 banner is now available again until next Sunday. The featured Heroes are Ayra, Olwen and Amelia. Although they all preceded the start of Book II, they’re among some of the stronger Book I units (even if Olwen’s brother stole her thunder).

Secondly, speaking of Reinhardt’s game (just kidding), Leif & Nanna’s Bound Hero Battle is currently on-going. Up until the daily rollover on 4th January 2020, you can re-challenge (or challenge for the first time) the hero and heroine pair from Thracia 776.

Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions English Version Now Out & Soundtrack News!

A heads up for strategy RPG fans (that should be you, right?). The English version of Vestaria Saga I: War of the Scions is now available to purchase on Steam. This is the game that Mr. Kaga–“father” of Fire Emblem–and his team created in their spare time.

By this point, we probably don’t need to tell you more about the game. But if you’re unsure, feel free to browse through our news archives.

In addition, the publishers have released Vestaria Saga I Soundtrack PIANO ARRANGEMENT & 8-BIT MUSIC VERSION, which is a selection of 11 8-bit arrangements from the CD plus 5 brand new piano arrangements and their original versions. For a total of 21 tracks.

This can be purchased as a bundle with the game or separately as DLC. However, you must own the game to purchase it. Also, the piano arrangements (and original versions) are not available yet and will be added once they’re completed.

On their Twitter account, Mr. Saitoh, who composed for the game (as well as Kaga’s previous game, Berwick Saga), mentions that he’s up for composing more tracks if there’s enough demand.

Furthermore, for the first time, the Vestaria Saga I Original Soundtrack has been released outside of Japan! The soundtrack contains 70 tracks from the game. Also, this version will come with a 4-page English booklet.

You can order the soundtrack internationally via this page. It retails for 3,400 Yen.

Thanks to @theprinceofiris for the heads up!
