Fire Emblem Engage: Somniel Analysis

At long last, I’ll be covering the Somniel trailer that Nintendo Japan shared last Friday.

By the way, this is Part 3 of the analysis for Friday’s Fire Emblem Engage content. If you missed them, feel free to check out Part 1, which covers the Expansion Pass, and Part 2, which covers the official website, etc.

At the time of writing, the western branches of Nintendo haven’t shared an English version of the trailer. However, I’ll point you to a fan-translated version, by SatsumaFS on Twitter.

Update: Nintendo of America and Europe have now shared their version of the trailer. However, because I don’t have much time, I’ve left some screenshots from the Japanese version.

Once again, thanks to TipperTheScales for providing assistance.

Intro

The Somniel is a floating base where you can relax between battles, similar to My Castle in FE Fates and, to an extent, the monastery in Three Houses.

On the left is artwork of the Somniel, while on the right is a zoomed out in-game shot.

We saw a tiny bit of the Somniel during the debut trailer, around the Plaza and checking out the Boutique. But this time, we’ll be getting a more in-depth look.

As you’d expect, you can find your allies chilling at the Somniel. Diamant appears to be enjoying a spot of fishing, while Amber stands nearby. Meanwhile, Goldmary is gazing at the plaza from higher up.

Unlike during battle, your allies wear more casual attire. Well, it makes sense, since you wouldn’t want to lug around heavy armour when you’re off-duty!

Prepare for Battle

At the Somniel, there are various facilities you can use to prepare for future battles.

These are all conveniently located around the Plaza. To the left of Alear, is Lapis. In the Hong Kong trailer, Framme is there instead. Meanwhile, in the English trailer, the honour goes to Fogado.

Fire Emblem Engage: Official Site & Topics Analysis II

On 9th December, the day of The Game Awards, Nintendo shared a bunch of updates for Fire Emblem Engage. In this article, I’ll be analysing the updates to the game’s official site and the accompanying Topics article.

If you missed it, please check out our earlier analysis of the Expansion Pass if you’re interested.

A big thanks to TipperTheScales for helping with the analysis!

Topics

The article begins by introducing the Expansion Pass and Somniel trailers. I’ll skip this part since it’s covered (or will be covered) elsewhere.

Next, it introduces the concept of Emblems. I believe everything here was covered in the “Engaging with Emblems” trailer. Obviously, there will be people reading the article who haven’t been following every aspect of the game.

Update: Thanks to Philipp Smirnov for reminding me. Engage attacks are limited to one use per Engagement. This makes sense because there were occasions Byleth’s Goddess Dance wasn’t available in the menu.

From here, they showcase the remaining 6 Emblems.

Roy, the Emblem of Binding

Roy’s our boy! Voiced by Jun Fukuyama, Roy is an Emblem with a good balance of offence and defence, who’s well suited for the front-lines.

Transcendence is an Engage skill that temporarily boosts the user’s Level, granting them additional stats.

In Roy’s overview video, it seems to grant 5 Level Ups for most units and maybe 6 for Dragon classes (like Alear’s Dragon Child).

Lapis is Engaging with Roy to borrow his Engage skills/attacks. The map is Firene on fire (seen in Ivy’s spotlight etc.), which we now know occurs in Chapter 17.

Allies include Goldmary (sword, synced with Celica), Alear (sword, synced with Marth), Fogado (bow cavalry), Panette (axe), Chloé (unarmed Wyvern Knight), Lapis (sword cavalry, synced with Roy), maybe Pandreo (tome/staff), Hortensia (tome/dual staff) and I think Etie (bow). Merrin might be the unit cut-off near the top, synced with Sigurd.

Fire Emblem Engage: Expansion Pass Analysis

Last Friday, Nintendo shared many updates for Fire Emblem Engage, such as the announcement of the Expansion Pass and a Japanese trailer for the Somniel base.

Because there was so much information and I was working from Friday to Sunday, this analysis comes later than usual.

Also, like the previous mega-analysis, I’ll be splitting it into multiple parts. This first part will cover the Expansion Pass contents.

Big thanks to TipperTheScales for helping with the analysis!

Intro

I didn’t think it would actually happen, but I had my suspicions with the way the official Fire Emblem Twitter was blazing through the social media content, only to potentially run out of content on Friday.

At The Game Awards, an Expansion Pass was announced for FE Engage.

Since FE Awakening, every FE game has featured an expansion pass or DLC (RIP Three Hopes), so an Expansion Pass was inevitable.

The announcement trailer opens with a few shots of characters fighting alongside revealed Emblems.

First, we see Alear & Marth fighting a Corrupted lance wielder. This occurs on the snowfield map seen in Diamant’s spotlight, etc. Right screen is from the spotlight.

Of note, near the top-right corner, there’s Jade as a green unit. Also, there’s a Talk bubble when the player selects Alear. So it’s possible you can recruit Jade by speaking with Alear. We know that you can recruit characters by talking to them, similar to FE games before Three Houses.

The allies on the map include Alfred and Amber (both lance cavalry).

Next shot is Fogado Engaged with Corrin using the Engage Attack, Torrential Roar to unleash Dragon Fang. Previously, he was labelled as “Fogato” via the official subtitles for the “The Divine Dragon Awakens!” trailer. That seems to be have been a mistake.

Fire Emblem Engage: Emblem Lyn Analysis

Today, the official Fire Emblem Twitter shared some more Fire Emblem Engage info as usual.

First, let’s have a look at Lyn’s profile:

Emblem Lyn (VA: Makiko Ohmoto), known as the Emblem of Blazing, is a nomad who lives in harmony with mother nature, and a skilled swordsman. She hails from the continent of Elibe from another world, and is a noblewoman related to the Marquess of Caelin.

Next, a conversation between her and Etie:

Etie: Miss Lyn, you have a nice and supple body. With a bit of training, you could build some impressive muscles.

Lyn: I do train to use a sword and bow, but training my muscles, huh… I never considered it. Perhaps it’d be interesting.

Afterwards, an overview video showcasing Lyn’s abilities:

Above is the video, re-uploaded as is. Below is a breakdown of the video.

Emblem Lyn excels in winning fights through merciless onslaughts that give foes no chance to retaliate. She’s good at both close-ranged assaults and sniping from a distance, making her ideal for units carrying heavy firepower.
