Fire Emblem 2018 Retrospective

Very soon, 2018 will be coming to an end. Just before we welcome the new year, let’s take a look back at how 2018 treated Fire Emblem, shall we?

Compared to the year before, 2018 was somewhat of a gap year for Fire Emblem. There were no notable releases, not even any spin-offs. However, things were far from quiet thanks to regular updates to Fire Emblem Heroes, which launched in 2017, as well as the Cipher card game.

In addition, we finally learned the true identity of the upcoming Fire Emblem title for the Nintendo Switch. Even if the game was delayed from its tentative 2018 release date to sometime in Spring 2019. So that gave us something nice to look forward to.

Disclaimer: This isn’t meant to be an objective review of the year, but the author’s personal take on things.

Heroes: Tempest Trials+: An Alliance of Princesses Coming Soon!

Lots of new events are coming up shortly in Fire Emblem Heroes! Right on the heals of the new banner trailer and Voting Gauntlet teased just a few hours ago comes the latest TT information! Put on your princess tiara and prepare for Tempest Trials+: An Alliance of Princesses.

This newest Tempest Trials features the latest New Years heroes coming out soon! New Years versions of Fjorm, Gunnthrá, Hríd, and Laevateinn are all featured Bonus Allies. New Years Laegjarn also appears as the TT-exclusive unit! The final three Bonus Allies are regular versions of Fjorm, Eir, and Sharena. As such, there is no special TT banner this time around.

In addition to Laegjarn, this Tempest Trials is also giving out some other exciting rewards. Two new Sacred Seals have made the cut: Spur Def/Res 1 and Atk/Spd Bond 1! Furthermore, you’ll be able to get a mythic Light Blessing at 12,500 points.

To help players earn up Orbs to summon for this New Years units, Heroes has also started a Tempest Trials Log-In Bonus! Starting today, we’ll be earning 13 Orbs over the course of the next ten days.

Tempest Trials+: An Alliance of Princesses starts on 1 January. The mysterious New Years Celebration will also be starting that day. With so many banners and events, Heroes players will have plenty to do to ring in the new year!

Heroes: Special Heroes (New Year’s of Fire and Ice), Voting Gauntlet and Sale Bundles

With 2018 about to come to a close, it was only a matter of time until the 2019 New Year banner was announced. Dataminers may have already given us spoilers as for what was to come, but for the rest of the summoners out there, that aren’t following along, come check out the New Year’s of Fire and Ice Special Heroes banner that was just announced.

This year, Nifl and Muspell join forces in this unlikely celebration, giving us a summonable foursome in Fjorm, Gunnthra, Hrid and Laevateinn. Outside of the quartet, Laegjarn: New Experiences (a Blue Lance Cavalier) will be available as a Tempest Trials+ reward unit, in upcoming Tempest Trials+: An ALliance of Princesses (starting January 1). In total, the banner brings us new debuff-centric units and new skills in Hone Atk 4 and Joint Hone Spd.

Of course, this banner comes with a Paralogue series, so prepare for the standard batch of Orbs and likely, associated quests for more Orbs.

Beyond dealing with the incoming units in general battles, there is a Voting Gauntlet to prepare for. This voting gauntlet pits the 2018 vs the 2019 New Years units, in a fairly assorted batch that happens to include the Tempest Trials reward Corrin [M]. Will this mean that the batch of alts from last year will be available in a banner? Given the history of VGs, the answer is likely yes, so good luck (in advance) in scoring a New Year’s Camilla, Takumi or Azura for the Voting Gauntlet.

Finally, it looks like two new one-time purchase sales will be coming, bestowing to buyers a combination of 140 orbs, 10,000 Hero Feathers and the differentiating components of the two sales, either Fjorm: New Traditions and 400 Aether Stones or Laevatein: Kumade Warrior and 200 Heroic Grails. Each is available for $74.99, and only available for the month of January, 2019.

Heroes: Version 3.1.0 Incoming, Update to Merge Allies, Legendary Azura + More!

Fire Emblem Heroes has shared news of the next version update, which is scheduled for early January 2019. You can find the information via the in-game notifications, but for your convenience, we’ll go over them here.

Firstly, as teased in the latest FEH Channel, Heroes with beast weapons will finally be arriving. No new information was shared, so we still only know of Tibarn and Nailah. But existing skills have been updated to account for these new weapons.

Next, Legendary Effects and Mythic Effects will play a slightly bigger role. In Aether Raids, Legendary Heroes will receive Mythic Effects if a Mythic Hero is present and both of their elements are aligned with the current season.

Likewise, Mythic Heroes will receive Legendary Effects if a Legendary Hero is present and both of their elements are aligned with the current season. This applies for all battles outside of Aether Raids, except Blessed Gardens.

For example, the current season is Water, Wind, Light and Dark. So if you have Legendary Fjorm (Water) and Mythic Eir (Light) in the same team, Fjorm will get a stat and Lift boost in Aether Raids, while Eir will get a stat boost in Arena etc.
