Fire Emblem Warriors Free Trial for Japanese and Hong Kong Switch Online Members 1/20 through 1/26

Fire Emblem fans who have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription for a Japanese or Hong Kong region account have the opportunity to trial run Fire Emblem Warriors between 20th and 26th January 2020.

Here’s the Japanese trailer announcing the game trial.

Nintendo Hong Kong also shared an article with the same offer for their region.

Similar to the game trials for Mario Tennis Aces in the West and Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker in Japan, fans can download the full game and play it within the specified dates. Afterwards, they must purchase the game if they wish to continue playing.

To qualify for the game trial, you must have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription active on a Japanese or Hong Kong region account. You can’t simply cheat by switching accounts (like for the Famicom apps).

That said, if you have a family plan with a spare slot, you could add a Japanese or Hong Kong region account to it. Alternatively, you could purchase a Nintendo Switch Online 7 day free trial for 100 Platinum Coins from the Japanese My Nintendo website (Nintendo states that this will work).

Once the game trial period is active, there will be a separate download link near the top of the game’s eShop product page (where the blue arrow is).

As a note from someone who has played both the Japanese and English versions of this game, the Japanese version does not have English language support unlike say Dynasty Warriors 9.

Additionally, between 20th January and 2nd February, both the game itself as well as the season pass (which contains all three DLC packs) will be discounted by 40%. This deal will only be available via the Japanese and Hong Kong eShops.

Each DLC pack comes with 3 history maps, 3 playable characters and several new weapon additions (including abilities and skills). As well as several new mission types sprinkled all over. Basically, there’s lots of contents for you to challenge.

Day 1 Fire Emblem Three Houses Stream (11a PST)

Hey there folks, Jedi here, (some know me as Jedisupersonic or Serenes_Jedi). I will be streaming the first several hours of the Golden Deer route on my streaming channel over on Twitch. (https://www.twitch.tv/serenes_jedi) on the 26th, much like how I did with Fire Emblem Warriors back in 2017.

As voted by the forums here on Serenes Forest, we will be playing as Male Byleth on the Golden Deer route, and as I’ve polled both here and Reddit, our Byleth’s name will be Sirius, a rather double edged reference for both old FE itself and Harry Potter.

The stream will kick off around 11 am PDT/PST. The length of the stream will likely be until my fully charged joycons run out of battery…roughly around 5 hours.

This first stream will likely be followed by loosely-scheduled ones, and I’ll decide the timing on as it goes. There might also be a brief stream at midnight earlier in that same day, so as to test things and to get through a little bit of the Blue Lions opening. If that does happen and you catch it, expect legendary LTCer (Low Turn Counts Player) and good friend of mine, General Horace to be joining me for just our first small impressions.

Additionally, I will be laying some ground rules, which are honestly just requests for common courtesy in the chat. Outside of the ordinary requests for politeness, I just have a few specific requests:

  • Please refrain from dishing out spoilers, I know some myself from all the datamining, and tons can be found on Reddit if you look hard enough, but please do not spoil stuff for the new viewers/players.
  • Please do not bring up the controversy of Chris Niosi (the voice actor for Byleth!M). I’m well aware of it, and we don’t need to waste time with something we cannot control.
  • I will be taking some suggestions from the chat, but I will be limited in what I’m able to do. Please understand that if I do not get to your request, it is not because I overlooked or ignored it.

That should cover everything! I hope to have a grand ol’ time, and look forward to having community involvement from fellow fans! Release is so soon! If you have any further questions or anything about 3H, you can message me at @Jedisupersonic on Twitter, or just say hello in Twitch chat, or hit me up on the Forums.

Three Houses: English Website goes live, voice samples, observations

The official English website for Fire Emblem Three Houses has finally gone live. It goes over the various information, a bit we know, but there are some interesting new nuggets of information. This will be focusing on that.

Three Houses: Developer Interviews with RPG Site and VG247

After the interview with Jeuxvideo, the developers of Three Houses were also interviewed by RPG Site and VG247. Given the timing, these probably happened around the time of Japan Expo in Paris.

The interviews are light on actual details about the game, but since we know a lot about the premise and core gameplay (plus they are unlikely to answer questions that are too specific), the developers were quizzed about more general things.

We’ll start with RPG Site’s interview. This one has some interesting questions about the inspirations for the game.

Left: A marketplace from the cancelled game. Right: The market in Three Houses.

The folks at RPG Site have really done their homework because they asked if Three Houses borrowed any inspiration from the cancelled Wii Fire Emblem game. In the cancelled game, players controlled multiple characters as one unit, a bit like the battalion system in Three Houses.

The developers said they didn’t directly borrow any ideas from that game, but they did say they often think about discarded ideas from throughout the series. Funnily enough, Kusakihara was the director of the ill-fated game and that’s where Yokota first met him.

Next, RPG Site asked if the game was influenced by Persona or Harry Potter (when considering the school setting). Actually, the game was based on the academy days of Sigurd, Quan and Eldigan from Genealogy of the Holy War. This was easy to guess, but it’s nice they acknowledged it.
